  1. Most of us know the story of Steve’s father by now. This hits close to home for him and it has to be incredibly difficult.

  5. It’s more profitable as misinformation drives people to stay on apps longer which increases their exposure to advertisers. In addition, often times misinformation and disinformation is driven by outside actors. I’m reminded of when Twitter enabled location data and some MAGA influencers were shown to be from other countries.

  8. I hope he runs for public office when he leaves the NBA. I won’t be mad if he doesn’t, but I’ll keep hoping in the mean time. He’s a smart guy and he’s level headed. Something we desperately need right now.

  16. There’s actually a great parallel to sports, in fact. If sports were no more than unaffiliated viewers watching talented athletes perform in various events and contests, they would never be nearly as profitable as the current situation, where large groups of fans committed to the various teams and competitors have been set against one another.

    Not only in the pros, but in schools, where athletics at the current levels would never be justified without the income they bring in, both directly and through the alumni donations they generate. At most top football and men’s bball programs in the NCAA, the Head Coach earns more than the top 20 faculty and administrators at their college combined. This includes University Presidents. immensely effective teachers and researchers, and even Nobel Laureates in some cases. It is the “divisions” between fans of competing schools and pro sports franchises that makes this all possible. Indeed, college are now pro sports franchises for all intents and purposes.

  30. This was perfectly said! It takes a true leader to speak out as a private company employee, it really puts Mr. Silver in a situation. If you do take action against to Steve, he will definitely speak his mind publicly.  If you don’t act, questionable people will make a scene that could affect revenue. And we know what motivates Mr. Silver, unfortunately.

  33. I’m sorry but this is pathetic. Yes we are divided intentionally, but this mumbo jumbo about arguing over videos muddies the waters when a nurse was just executed in broad daylight, nothing ambiguous about that. I like Kerr in general but this was incredibly embarassing. Breanna Stewart kept it simple and said “Abolish ICE.” That is the message here, not a mealy mouth call for unity.
