  1. Some of the best analyses right here on this podcast. Persoanlly, I'd rather see the Habs not make the playoffs, because as we've seen in the past 2 months, they're not built for playoff hockey. Take the rest of the season to evaluate who stays, who goes and go down in the standings to get a better draft pick. Then make your changes in the off season and wait for Hage and Zharovsky..

  2. The plan is , ( we,re going to live or die with Montambeault ) the ship is sinking, it’s either you get rid of the rotten extra baggage and live to see another day , or sink with it .. the guy is rotten and you can see it , there’s no future with him and sooner or later he is got to go , so pleaaaaase get rid of him now and stop saying ( ce n,est pas sa faute ) of course it is …OMG , wake up people… or in other words ( wake up Mr hughes …

  3. I'll be the happiest fan when I no longer hear anything about man to man. We have the perfect zone player in Arber Xhekaj who is at his best when he gets to own his territory. Blue line corner and net front.

  4. I blame Martin’s St. Louis for how he plays man-to-man defence when it should be zone defence and also I blame him for how the power-play works. Canadiens are always on the outside. Very rarely is anyone in front of the net or in the bumper spot? I think Gordon and Hughes are smart people, but I just don’t understand why they have so many defenceman the same there is no toughness except for Jack guy on defence mouth and Dooley carrier Dobson they’re not great defensive defenceman so many times the opposition is scores with them standing beside the player and and they do absolutely nothing to stop them. That was a prime example when buffaloes scored when Dobson did absolutely nothing to stop the buffalo player from just going around him like he wasn’t even there and scored pathetic. Montreal will be at least three or four years before they contend the third and fourth line is totally useless soft soft soft that describes Montreal. I know just have to be patient think major changes will start in the summer.

  5. I think Cole Caulfield is a very intelligent player with high-end skills for shooting for sure he should be giving lessons on how to shoot a puck on net Dobson Matheson and others do not hit the net on a high percentage of their shots. Matheson is always high off the glass cough fields.

  6. Have you guys seen all the goals our main rivals are scoring in the East. I don't give much validity to the narrative the goals against however we should talk about.

  7. Marco ragged on the team defense so much I had to go back and watch because I had a totally different sense of the game. He's right that the PK didn't do itself any favors, Guhle chasing on the first and EVANS totally giving up the player on the backdoor (though Monty WAY overplayed Pasternak). We were playing a solid defensive 3rd period, UNTIL Monty totally flubbed that 3rd goal, both Guhle & Bolduc came back hard, sure the puck bounced off Carrier's skate back to the player but what is this about "he should never have gotten in the zone??" The Bruin had JUST jumped on the ice when he was hit with the pass at our blueline, Carrier may have been a bit deep but he closed quickly and otherwise it was a 'nothing burger' play, an easy backhand that should have resulted in nothing. And as for penalties, yes our PK needs to be better but its not just about the ones called, its the non-calls. Near the end of the 2nd (<2m), off the faceoff, Caulfied is high covering the d-man where he should be, he skates with him towards the net to take away the pass, gets CROSSCHECKED to the ice and then its 1-on-1 with Monty. This game was lost by Monty, not because our man-to-man D broke down, we gave as good as we got, owned the play for a lot of the game and Monty let us down pure & simple.

  8. Im sick and tired of MSL last night it was dobes turn MSL was a peewee coach for god sake and the man to man in the defensive zone doesn't work CHANGE IT and evender kane i want him as far as possible from our team 😂😂😂😂

  9. politics are still in play which is frustrating, BUT NOT FOR MONTY I can promise its not politics for monty. Monty is their starter still they want him to get going i respect them sticking with him but soon something has to change brother.

  10. Upgraded I would like :

A McCarron type over Evans upgrade size and grit keeping same 2way strengths

Luke Schenn experience, toughness & solid defense upgrade on Struble ( Kovacevic another guy I’d like for size and grit )

Brayden Schenn upgrade on Kapanen – likely the minimum ask return in that trade, experience, tough, strong 2way, as good with the puck as he is without it ( something Kapanen is not )

Laine money out return is not crucial but a hockey trade would be best.

Would rather keep Dach over Newhook maybe one needs to go before July 1st

Less Monty in net and would welcome a trade in fact.

Honestly I’d take Pickard for Monty he can’t be any worst than Monty right now

Oilers could have Monty back up Jarry or have 2 1B goalies amd never win again for all I care

  11. Matheson at not be soft but he sure as hell isn’t hard either

Dobson also not physical so please tell why we should expect stiff defensive play against heavy teams when your number 1 pair is one of the softest to play against. Great with puck possession poor with puck battles

    I’d like to see

    Ghule – Dobson
    Xhekaj – Hutson
    Matheson – Carrier

No real 3rd pair just 3 pairs you can run however & whenever you want

The D always get juggled in game anyway but Ghule would bring a physical element to Dobson

    Arber to Xhekaj

The only soft pair then would be Matheson – Carrier

Maybe we upgrade on Carrier keep him as a 7th and trade Struble for a tough as Nails Kovacevic or Luke Schenn

  12. It's obvious like day that they get none of the dirty area of the low slot. Because of this, the bumper is totally useless as no passes go there and the goalie can see just about every single pass. Slaf needs to be right in front of the goalie all the time. Habs are literally boxed to the perimeter during their powerplays which are low chance. Habs do give up the low slot too easily or too lightly defended. They only scored a couple PPG because Caufield willed it. Also have to note that most of the associate coaches were from Ducharme's tenure so Marty didn't really get to select his coaching staff. Did Robidas suggest this hybrid style defense? Evander Kane is likely a bad locker room cancer and he's literally causes a lot of trouble outside of hockey.

  13. Btw I suggested earlier in the season to trade Monty for Skinner and got mocked…oh well another year at 3 million instead of a 2 million UFA…

  14. I think the habs really want to go next year with Fowler. To do that they want an experienced goalie in a tandem and their prefered option is Monty. I'm not sure it's going to work out though and can see them having to do a trade

  15. The problem isn't just goaltending; it is team defense overall. Far too many odd-man rushes because of cheating Dmen, far too many defensive zone lapses where players lose their checks. This is all on MSL; time to scrap the man-to-man defense and revert to zone and reel in the Dmen when on offense.

If they don't, they may not make the playoffs or just have another early round exit.

  16. Monty is not in the team’s future, Dobes is not ready to take over, and Fowler is not ready yet either…Trade incoming or they let them do their best, even if it means missing the playoffs this year.

  17. To me , the biggest recurring issue is the lack of grit and size on the first line .
It doesn’t matter who they play with Suzuki and Caufield if he’s the only guy willing to play physical and get his nose dirty .
Suzuki is a great two way player with a very high hockey IQ but he doesn’t finish his checks , doesn’t engage in board battles and doesn’t fight for puck deflections in front of net .
As long as him and Caufield are paired up their line will struggle against bigger more physical teams .
It was obvious against Washington last april and also visible against Boston , Buffalo and Detroit more recently .
Suzuki and Caufield are great together when they have more space on the power play or in overtime but it gets a lot harder for them when 5 on 5 .

  18. I like Robert Thomas, But I’m not sure how you give up Guhle with the deal he is on, and the desperate need this team has for physical Ds, Idk. I feel like you’re fixing the 2C issue but creating an issue for when you get to the playoffs.

Now of course Guhle can’t stay healthy so i understand that he hasn’t given the Canadiens availability which is the greatest thing you can give as a player, But man. That’s a hard decision to make, But I guess you have to give to get.

If they did move Guhle in a package for Thomas, Like a First round pick, Guhle, Kapanen, and another prospect, The Habs would need to go out and trade for a guy like Zach Whitecloud.
