We forget so fast! Or maybe we're new bball fans and aren't aware. So let's rewind back just 4 years to a team in a very similar situation to ours… Read Here

It's the 21-22 season. You're a Boston Celtics team that just entering the midway point of the season with a sub .500 record. The expectations were high this season because you've had 3 straight playoff appearances. The questions about the teams roster since the previous year you finished at .500, finished 7th in the east, and got bounced in the first round (sounds familiar?). Can Tatum and Brown coexist? Should they trade one? Instead of pulling a bad trade, Brown got healthy, and they shifted the energy of the team.

Went form a record of 17-19 to finish at 51-31, 2nd in the east, and a trip to the finals.

I see so many parallels to this current Magic team. They’ve shown flashes of absolute dominance this year but haven’t found the consistency. All it takes is for things to click and I think we have the same success arc as the Celtics.

I know the naysayers will talk about the ECF trip in year one of Tatum’s career but you must remember they had a trio of scoring point guards in their prime playing alongside Tatum and Brown:

Kyrie – IT – Kemba

The key is patience and chemistry. Brad Stevens ended getting fired..but promoted…(what a privilege). Ime Udokah took over, struggled for a bit in the early season, but then the energy shifted around All Star break. Then they looked like the best team in the league for the second half of the season. Probably could’ve won the chip if it weren’t for the greatness of Steph.

The pieces are all there…

  1. This entire comp falls apart when you acknowledge that Paolo and Franz are not Tatum and Brown. Not in play style and shooting ability, not in experience, and not in compatibility.

It’s funny how you say the key is patience and chemistry only to then go on and recount how the Celtics changed their front office and their coaching staff.

    > They’ve shown flashes of absolute dominance this year

    I must have missed this

  2. I’m not even going to address the player talk. We lack any sort of offensive scheme at all. If we fix that, all of our players could take a leap. If we don’t, nobody will.
