Pens moving up to #8 in the Latest Power Rankings

  1. >(The Buffalo Sabres, ranked #6) now sit with a 7-2-1 record over their last 10 games and an elite 29-17-5 overall record.

The Pens’ record is 26-14-11 (also 12 wins more than regulation losses). Pittsburgh are 22-14 in regulation, Buffalo are 23-17, and I bet regulation record is better correlated with playoff success (there is no 3-on-3 or shootout in playoff overtime games).

I also think Detroit and the Islanders will fall off and Winnipeg, LA, Utah, and Ottawa will make runs. Behind Tampa Bay and Carolina, I think Pittsburgh are third-best in the Eastern Conference.

  2. I’d have us at 5, maybe as high as 4. I think Buffalo feels more for real than Detroit, so if you want to put them ahead of us, that would be Colorado, Tampa, Carolina, Buffalo, and then us.

I think Vegas is WAY too high on this list. They play in the worse division of the worse conference, so their point total is slightly inflated in my eyes. Detroit doesn’t have me convinced, although I wouldn’t want to play them in a series right at this moment. Minnesota is just plain cold recently, so I’d actually have Boston above them.
