[Foolish Baseball] Hitters really do have a lot of control over their batted ball distribution. Max Muncy hit just one (1) opposite field groundball in 2025. When you’re as committed to pulling the ball in the air as he is, the reverse rarely happens.

  1. So surely the opposite is true and hitters have a lot of control over hitting it the other way

Edit – I forgot I made this comment. I knew that going oppo was in the hitters control. I was being facetious about the shift ban and how it’s stupid

  2. While I don’t doubt it’s true, is Muncy really the best example for this? He’s always been a pull heavy guy and probably one of the people who have benefited the most from the shift being banned.

  3. I remember when The Dodgers had all 4 infielders on the right side of second base when Barry Bonds was at bat.

  4. I remember that Chris Sabo once hit an opposite field hr and the Reds dugout went absolutely bonkers.

  5. So what I’m seeing is the just hit the ball where it’s pitched complaint my dad has has some merit

  6. When Max goes oppo its so unexpected and dramatic, his 18th inning walk off, and this year when he did it off Gausman was a big surprise too.
