Harrison Bader agrees to a two-year contract with the Giants, is he the outfield upgrade they need?
FP Santangelo and Susan Slusser take a look at the Giants’ big news, adding free-agent outfielder Harrison Bader pending a physical. A look at his skill set and what the outfield alignment might look like, plus: Logan Webb at the WBC and others expected to play (including Bader), and breaking down the enthusiasm about Hayden Birdsong going into the spring.

2026 SF Giants motto “ IF”. If everyone improves, and all the luck hits us we can also compete for a final wild card spot.
Posey has signalled with this signing the Giants are going for it a bit more…so why not pony up and get Framber and get an upgrade for 2B to round out the roster for next season?
Giants always signing guys like this while the Dodgers signing all star caliber players another boring season for the Giants while the Dodgers win another WS
For Matos, he’s had numerous chances to prove himself, but just hasn’t shown that he can be a consistent big leaguer
He's a g e n o c i d e supporter 🧃
Typical Giants, two years too late.
Much better pod than Pavs and Kuiper. Giants are going .500 again though
Good signing! Improves the team significantly defensively & some offensively. A trade for Donovan makes this lineup deep & likely able to contend for a playoff spot!
The Giants don't have the right to ask Webb not participate in the WBC. They're not giving him anything to be excited about. They're wasting his prime years.
Now we need a really good starter aand im good
Bader has had ONE season with 500 plate appearances. Like Houser, Posey's expecting that Bader will get hurt, and then these young guys will, hopefully by then, have been developed enough by the coaching staff that we just hired. You know, the staff that specializes in developing players that we just hired?
Bader is a good move but at the end of the day, this team is still a 500 team with that rotation and bullpen
Still a 500 club, IF they stay healthy, I would say it’s better than nothing 😂
Walker seemed to be wild a lot, couldn't throw strikes, got way behind, then when he did get it in it got hit hard. Doval would do the same thing in his bad outings.
Seems like when Giants player was HBP & Birdsong was pressured to hit other team’s player that’s when his mental & control issues began – which affected him remainder of the season. Hopefully his offseason work has helped Birdsong regain his confidence & pitcher we all see
Giants get better with Bader addition, still need more pitching.
i think this is such a good add
not going to make me watch any games, if they sign a top of the rotation arm and get another bat then maybe we can talk
More than anything, this is such a great podcast. The more I watch, the more I just feel like FP and Susan are friends, haha
His numbers last year look like an outlier. 400 at bats maybe, and 15 HR 15 SB seem wishful thinking. Does he take the short side platoon with Gilbert? You can't steal first base, so his speed gets neutralized by his anemic OBP.
Are we really getting excited about what looks like 86 wins?
Because imstead of giving Matos consistent playtime they kept wasting time on Yaz
WBC gonna be the wreck of this team
It’s not an exciting day they basically got a replacement for Yaz. His projected FWAR is nearly identical and he has reverse splits so of course they have another right handed hitter that can’t hit lefty’s. I’d be excited if they signed Framber Valdez, Brandon Donavan, got a new GM, and a new draft director.
So we essentially got the outfield equivalent of Matt Chapman oh yippee. More strikeout after strikeout. Cant wait.
If Harrison Bader was like the third position player move, then we could be excited.
Harrison Bader is underrated. People can forget how good he his
Chapman is on the roster but hasn’t been confirmed. Kai Wai Teng is the captain of Taiwan. Jose Butto is playing for Venezuela. Dave Rigetti is managing Italy. Dusty Baker is managing Nicaragua.
FYI an interview with the new DUDE https://youtu.be/VkLZ_5FNxjg?si=zYEjDOZM5TWdLNUH
The Giants made a mistake being cheap and trading Taylor Rogers before last season started. Teams were easily platooning against them since Eric Miller was the only lefty in the bullpen. They probably win three more games and make the playoffs even with all the issues they experienced. The bullpen has carried this team. With one of the worst bullpens going until 2026 they’re going to go from being a .500 team to becoming a compete disaster
If Chapman is batting 4th, we're in trouble.
No big deal. The offense still sucks, the pitching still sucks. 3rd or 4th place AGAIN. Buster trying to lose
Bader was a delight to watch in Philly last year. Great fielding, clutch hitting, a happy joyful presence in the team. He was a fan favorite here and I prayed for a miracle to keep him in Philly. Wishing him happiness and luck in SF. He'll be sorely missed by Philly fans.
Giants improved by adding a 4th outfielder. SMH 😢
Going to be watching JHL for team Korea w/my wife in Tokyo! We got seats about 20 rows behind home plate so god knows we’re going to be chanting for him
Susan and fp. Another celebration over the minimum. Fans want the ownership to care about being .500 or less 9 out of 10 years. They are throwing up the white flag and saying home grown stars. Well until then, go sign real players. Defense, speed and pitching. Added platoon player, 5th rotation guy. Actions speak. Break even in full display. Could have signed bichette. Framber. We get hopeful trades pursued and injured players
How come no one mentions how handsome our team is? That's enough to get my butt in a seat at Oracle!
