Islanders Acquire Soucy from Rags for 2026 3rd round pick

Third round pick. Really. We need to pay a premium for this guy because it’s the rags making the trade with us. I don’t care how good he plays. This is overpaying.
He’s a big, physical player….which we desperately need. It’s a 3rd round pick, we have a lot of draft capital and rising prospects and there’s no long term commitment. It’s a low risk situation in a season where we seem to have an outside chance of doing something in the playoffs. I’m ok with this.
Fine. I guess.
I don’t love that we made a trade with the rags
People losing their minds over a third round pick…
Fire Darche. After our expansion year, the Isles have never traded for a Rangers player. Never. Once the team became established, the Islanders and Rangers have been sworn enemies. You don’t trade for an enemy player. Period.
Darche is a traitor to Islanders culture. He should be treated like a traitor.
I’m not really that pressed either way about a trade with the Rags but I do think it would be very sick to get traded and not even have to move houses. Good for him, best case scenario!
Sounds like a much better option than Leddy who just got healthy scratched at Barracuda.
I don’t hate it, we’re keeping our first rounders and it hopefully helps to let George adjust in a more normal and controlled fashion. But yes, Rags…
Good hockey trade.
Because I don’t keep up with other teams as much as I did, an old scouting report I found
>A slow developer (four seasons of college hockey, plus three in the AHL), he is learning to make the best possible use of his size and strength. He can play either side effectively, and has shown he can be an effective shutdown defender. Though he has never been a big point producer, he knows how to get the puck on net for tips and rebounds, and how to find open teammates.
>Long Range Potential: Big, inconsistent defenseman.
Just why? I get a 3rd round pick isn’t the end of the world… but for a 31 year old rental bottom pair guy? I’d much rather a 3rd rounder…. I don’t think we were a soucy away from the cup…
Adam pelech numbers on a worse team. If he can give us solid stay at home defense and cut down on our goals against I’m ok with it.
The people saying this is a bad trade don’t realize how low risk this trade is. A 3rd round pick is at most 10-15% likely to play more than 100 games in the league. Add on to that even if they make the team thats still 5 years away. In the past 10 years, only 2 of our 15 3rd round picks have become lineup regulars. This is a low risk move to fill a spot now, not 5 years down the line. Is he gunna be the missing piece, probably not. That said he brings some things that we need right now. Third pair guy, physical player, with a minimal cap hit
Let’s remember that if this was Lou he would have traded a first round pick for Leddy and sign him to a 7 year contract with a full no-trade, no-move clause. In Darche We Trust!

Is he playing in the back to back?
