  1. Second to last option is probably a lot more of a reason he went to LA over us, even though we moved past him. We don’t have a defense he can trust. I don’t know if we ever will

  2. Wait wait wait…. Based on this subreddit I thought that McDaniel was basically a done deal, and it was our stupid front office that screwed everything up?

  3. Thank you for posting this. Im fine with him not picking us, I would be heated if we passed on him though and he wanted to come here.

  4. >Wanted a mobile QB

I’ll have you know our boy ranked 44th in rushing yards, maybe McDaniel couldn’t handle a dual threat QB?

  5. Idk how he could’ve had any job if he came here wanting to hire his own coaches, a mobile QB, and run RPO. I have to imagine the Lions wouldn’t have made an offer with those demands (RPO they may have been open to). But maybe they were willing to get Goff on that treadmill and willing to lose Fraley. Who knows

  6. If he comes here and the offense struggles he is essentially pulling himself out of HC searches. If he goes to the chargers and boosts their offense even moderately he’s a top candidate for HC jobs. Plus he gets to live in great weather. It’s a no brainer for him.

  7. Where’s that crowd that was demanding accountability from Dan for the Petzing hire 😂

Did you guys get the closure you needed? Does Dan and Brad still need to cater to how you “feel” about hires you know nothing about?

  8. >- Chargers have a defense he can rely on

Minter just left to go be the Ravens HC, so…..

  9. Just let it go, if he bad he’s bad, if he’s good he’s interviewing for hc jobs in season

  10. I hope he does a good job for Harbaugh. BUT, McDaniel will be keeping an eye out all season for potential HC openings. One year and done (at least in his mind).

  11. He may not see it now, but McDaniel is taking a pretty big risk here. I watched enough of the Chargers to know that the offense is mercurial. I’ll carry the torch for Herbert forever, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the team went 4-13. And McDaniel would be lucky to catch on as a positional coach after Harbaugh is fired as a result.

  12. Wearing capri pants while failing in Miami or LA hits a lot easier with the fans than failing in capri pants in Philly or Detroit.

  13. I’m not going to be bitter about it if all of those are true. He seems like a cool guy and I still like him. BOL

  14. RPO will never be a real thing in the NFL with the current “illegal man down field” rules.

  15. McDaniels was never coming here but it was fun to see the pics of him at DTW. Him and Jim Harbaugh will have the funniest press availability of the season and this is all probably for the best in the end.

  16. I’m no longer disappointed. And seeing how he and Petzing ranked against each other, I don’t think we made a bad call.

  17. So we gonna fire all our coaches so he can bring in new coaches and then he’s gonna leave next year?

    I’m good.

  18. 1. Mobile QB, yeah, everybody wants that. They’re so hot right now.
    2. RPOs, yeah not really our thing… Goff has run that a couple of times, mostly for flavor.
    3. Any OC job you want, sure. We’ve got some of the best offensive weapons in football.
    4. Want to HC again, sure. We’re upwardly mobile. Both coordinators from 2024 are HCs right now, though Glenn might be in trouble.
    5. Cali is a problem for us, being in Michigan. Not gonna gild the lily there.
    6. Want to bring in your own coaches… there’s probably some flexibility there, but we’re set on several of those position jobs, unless Scottie takes an OC gig.
    7. I’ll go to my grave believing this would’ve been a top 10 defense of we could’ve stayed healthy. Same with last year’s team. The Chargers ARE a top 10 defense though, gotta give them that.
    8. Got along with ownership & Harbaugh immediately… let’s see how long that one lasts.

It sounds like McDaniel got the job that suited him best, so I won’t fault him for that. It also sounds like he wasn’t going to be a clean fit here. That said, it sounds like we basically hired 2 dudes to do the job of one, so I’m curious to see how that works. Who calls plays, who’s in the headset, etc.

  19. This must be the “not a fit” Holmes and Campbell alluded to. I haven’t watch the whole 42 minute press conference yet but I have to say, assuming this was all correct and from the press conference (which is a pretty safe assumption but I’ll watch it all later), I have to agree he wasn’t a good fit. Honestly, the combo of Petzig+ Kafka is a really solid combo for this team’s personnel and play style. They really balance each other out.

  20. And if he signed with Detroit he’d be listing the reasons that align with how he’d want to run the offense in Detroit lmao.

If you have Goff you’d say you wanted a vet with great command if an offense who you know delivers the ball on time accurately and let’s the playmakers make plays. Just an objectively better version of Tua who also doesn’t have any injury concerns.

  21. Jim Harbaugh and McD are such an odd couple match personality wise. I really want some BTS of these meetings.

  22. The kiklihood of him coming to Detroit was less than 10% imo. People like to felude themselves into thinking it was more than likely or at least a good fit, and it really was not.
