[Rapoport] The Broncos fired OC Joe Lombardi, per me and Tom Pelissero.

  1. Davis Webb come on down. You’re the next Fake OC on the Denver Broncos. But in all seriousness this is very good news. Lombardi was a lame duck friend hire.

  2. I’m only shocked cause he’s Sean’s boy. But welcome to your new job Mr Davis Matthew Webb

  3. Ik Sean will never give up play calling fully but I would like to see him train up someone who could take over after him. He’s getting up there in age after all.

  4. Man, I sure hope this is Webb getting a bump! And the positive, we might actually know what he does for SP!

  5. Interesting moves afoot here. Let’s hope the Walton’s backed up the Brixx truck for Webb

  6. Ownership should offer Wal-Mart money to Webb right now and promote him to OC before the Raiders offer him the HC position.

  7. My worry with Sean Payton is that he’ll surround himself with too many guys who have been there with him forever and are essentially yes men. I like the idea of getting rid of some of those guys and bringing different viewpoints in.

  8. I have been begging for us to do this and promote Webb, holy shit. It almost guarantees he gets hired away after this season but idgaf, this qould improve us immensely

  9. Payton is great at scripting, but he’s terrible at playcalling. Just have Payton do the work before the game and have Webb actually call the game. Gives Payton time to oversee the actual play on the field and make wiser decisions. He’s just not good at doing both anymore.

  10. I’m pretty excited about the opportunity this opens up for us – I always had the feeling Lombardi was a glorified PA

  11. Highly doubt Sean is dropping playcalling duties, but should he nice getting someone to help Sean bounce ideas off of better

  12. OC is more than calling plays. That’s not their primary duty. Their primary duty is implementing offensive schemes and going over tape with players. They game plan, create scripts, and design plays. While Lombardi wasn’t calling plays, he definitely was contributing to the offense in tangible ways. So it is not nothing to get rid of him and replace him with someone else.

I wonder if this is a “promote Webb or lose him” situation and they chose to promote him.

  13. Huh… that’s kinda out of left field. Not saying its a bad move just didn’t really expect it

  14. If they actually let Webb have an opportunity to be the play caller and Sean gives up that responsibility, I think it will be the most impactful move we can make this offseason.

  15. This is a huge shock. Surprised Sean was willing to can his buddy but hope this means Davis Webb will end up staying.

  16. Color me shocked. The old boys club finally canned a buddy. That never happens. Remarkable how many times HCs are willing to go down with the ship instead of firing a buddy. Good on Sean if he did this to keep Webb and saw the value in it. Incredibly rare in pro sports

  17. Offense was sluggish this year. Couldn’t produce in big moments. Hope we can find someone better.

  18. Well what did he used to do? This is Sean’s offense and play calling. What responsibilities did Joe have?
