  1. The only way I’d be interested in Suarez: we shore up the infield defense, clear the dh spot, and his market drops to a one year deal at a relative bargain. If he’s to dh and hit in the bottom third of the lineup after figuring out the infield, then sure…

  2. I wouldn't mind as long as they get somebody, I think the rest of the lineup is good enough to get by his strikeouts… Maybe still put Mayer at 3rd and you have Suarez's the DH when you can finally get rid of Yoshida

  3. Fair enough but let me push back a little-

    1) As you noted he is a big HR guy and we all agreed that was a big need for this team heading into the offseason
    2) He would be a FA signing and not a trade. This is a very important yet underrated aspect to this acquisition. Getting Hoerner, Donovan, CJ Abrams, etc. would cost you either from the current team (Duran/Wilyer and/or Bello) or the future team (Early or Tolle). Signing Geno would likely only lead to a Yoshida DFA or Patrick Sandoval trade to shed payroll from the CBT. This is very important cuz on offense it allows your lineup to be another hitter deeper in the 1-9 and by not trading Bello you maintain that top of the league rotation.
    3) His defense is a question mark not necessarily a negative though. His defense has fluctuated from year to year. He's had great years and below average years. Some say last year was aging regression but he did this before with -9 OAA in 2021 but then a couple years later he had 11 OAA in 2023. So the defense could bounce back. Its a risk but it could.
    4) People will point to his 2nd half and postseason struggles, but I think much of that can be because of the Seattle ballpark factor. He has consistently hit less well in SEA. Previously in his tenure with the Mariners he had his career low in HRs (minus 2020) while in SEA. Fenway would be a much better fit for him.
    5) Strikeouts and streaky offense definitely would be a nasty side effect similar to 2024 with Tyler O'Neill, but this year I think we have the pitching to sustain the team in the midst of those offensive duldrums.

I'm not saying he would be the best option, but for these reasons, I don't think the signing would be a disaster.

  4. Won’t happen, the cost would put them way over the next tax apron. Plus if you keep hearing about it there is more of a chance it won’t happen

  5. I could live with Suarez on a one-year deal, but not long term. Saw an interesting trade idea today that a baseball writer mentioned, though he didn't think the Sox should do it. I found it very intriguing, though. Duran, Bello and young pitching prospect Phillips for ace Tarik Skubal. Skubal will be a free agent at the end of 2026. Skubal would make Boston's pitching staff the best in baseball in 2026, even if they couldn't resign him. I'm a Duran fan, but I'd consider moving him for Campbell and Masa to make the team. Bello nor Phillips are NOT as talented as the Sox Big Three pitching prospects of Early, Tolle and Witherspoon. Yeah. I'd pull the trigger on that deal.

  6. We need someone who doesn't strike out a lot and knows he way around a baseball glove. Suarez is Mr Strikeout !!! Good gosh. These people consider themselves baseball authorities and think he would be a good fit in Boston. Thats nuts. He is a lousy defender. So between bad defense and strikeouts how many games I wonder would he cost us ??? I want no part of this guy. Please NO !!! Give me Brendan Donovan instead. Even though a lefty bat he does hit decent against lefty pitchers. He can play different positions and has a solid glove. The man knows how to play both sides of the ball. Good contact hitter too. Not a lot of homers I know but….you won't be ripping your hair out over excessive strikeouts or errors in the field.

  7. We waited too long to get a really good target for 2B. Now we’re either platooning or sticking with a below average player. Please stop saying we have a great pitching staff. We don’t. We’re not the 1970 orioles or the 1990 braves. Those were great pitching staffs. I’m going to be disliked for this, but we’re a 500 team unless everyone exceeds expectations

  8. I'm not sure why this is a bad idea …unless he has draft compensation attached to him. He has RH power and will not cost young pitching. If he can't hack 3rd, move to DH and John Henry just had to eat the Mastaka contract….oh well, hell just have to skip steak and lobster for breakfast to afford it.

  9. IF the Sox could convince Suarez to be primarily the DH and fill in at third for Mayer, I would be all for this on a two year deal. The Sox need his power in that lineup in order to score runs.
Of course, they would need to unload Yoshida and would still have to eat a portion of his contract. Too bad he can’t play a decent second base. They still need a second baseman who can provide quality defense and hits right handed but aside from Hoerner or Shaw I don’t know who that would be. They could solve the defense with Dylan Moore but he gives very little offensively.

  10. You're exactly correct. Breslow specifically states defense is a major concern. It's going to be unexciting, lower cost, excellent fielding, platoon type, utility guy.

They might believe Eaton, Sogard, (maybe Campbell) and Hamilton are enough until the Yoshida situation is resolved assuming it ever is or Arias burst into majors.

Crazy idea would be Duran at 2B. Another nutty one is Casas at 3B. 😮

  11. Listen I would rather have him than not they will sign him maybe 2 years so at least he has power I mean really you want to go into the season with Mayer and Eaton at third base why not sign him

  12. That’d be a good signing… tons of pop at the 7,8th slot, better than Devers defense at 3rd, plays 1st, DH and cheap… Very cheap insurance for Mayers injury prone tendencies plus tradeble by mid season if it’s opted

  13. I agree with you Corbin I think at this point right now if it was me I would trade for Brendan Donovan and call it a day I think if they had him that way you can have Marcelo at 3rd but they definitely need to look into getting someone else who can play Third Base who gives you some power because you definitely need a backup because not having anybody else to play Third Base in that lineup they have nobody on that team who could play third base for any lengthy period of time because I believe it's a waste of time to go after Nico hoerner it's too expensive and you're only going to end up with him for one season because you know what's going to happen when it comes time to offer him an extension the Red Sox are going to cheap out and not want to pay him what he wants so why give up good quality players that you have right now to acquire him just to get you through a season that you know you're not going to win the World Series in anyway because let's face facts there's no way that the Red Sox are going to be able to beat the Dodgers at this point you're going to have a good team with a good season but I just don't see a World Series at the end of it so for now I think the best bet with what players that are available unless there's somebody that none of us know about I would go with Brendan Donovan and see if maybe possibly you could trade Yoshida and free up the DH spot and look for someone at the trade dead line with a power Bat

  14. What no video on Jarren Duran being the #1 ranked left fielder in the sport ? Gotta be tough for you considering who’s #2 _ how do I give Roman he’s due without acknowledging Duran? You will figure it out
