JD Young breaks down the Sharks’ OT collapse, questioning the choice to start overtime with two defensemen against Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl while leaving Celebrini on the bench. The analysis spotlights standouts Sam Dickinson and Michael Misa, examines Askarov’s resilient goaltending, and scrutinizes how the Sharks’ third-period “turtle” cost them a critical win. Key segments include William Eklund’s two-way impact, Collin Graf’s defensive prowess, and the looming impact of missed points on San Jose’s playoff hopes.

  1. Warso needs to get his head out of his ass or fired. You cannot tuetle and play to not lose against Connor McDavid and you cannot send two tired Dmen out against them in OT. Holy fuck this coaching staff is incompetent

  2. Asky seemed incensed in the post-game interview… i can understand why, you're right he played AMAZING all game, and the coach took a dump on his masterpiece!

  3. glass half-full here, we hung in there with the freakin Oilers (who made the finals the past 2 years) and we almost beat them.. i have a feeling a nice rivarly is brewing here 😉

  4. Seems like stupid mistakes from Warso but let's not overreact. Group being mentally strong can have lot to do with coach and I think he is doing a great job overall. In big picture these are quite small details and can easilly be fixed.

  5. i swear askarov cant catch a break…. everyone talks about him struggling but it's not him! like tonight… first goal off orlov's skate, and then klingberg had to count to 3 before he attempted to clear the puck… then 6 on 5 goals while the sharks sat back and let the best offense in the world pass the puck without any type of pressure.. like help the kid out!

  6. Loved and needed this, JD. I’m not a Warso guy and I’ll be honest, I think many of the advanced stats regarding our season, show that we are where we are by Mack brilliance and a bit of puck luck. Our special teams are ineffective and his coaching decisions truly hinder this team. Last nights game took the cake, IMO. For this next phase of our rebuild, we need an experienced/proven NHL coach.

  7. We need a good Vet Right shot defenseman and one in the draft. Give the net minders some freaking help. Not start OT with two mid defenseman instead of putting in Graf…

  8. That was the worst OT I have ever seen. Why the hell did we have 2 D out there? Also, TL falling on Asky at the end was embarrassing – looked like he was trying to throw the game

  9. In the end the Sharks have started this road trip with getting three out of four possible points. They should have won last night, but the bigger, harder hitting, heavier, more experienced and more talented team that was in the finals last season beat them.

Should they have pressed more in the third? I believe they tried, but as the game wore on the Sharks wore down. When crunch time came the more experienced, more talented and flat out better team rose to the occasion.

It is not to say the Sharks are bad, it is to say they are just not at the Oilers level yet.

The young guns played well, but wilted at the end of the game and their veterans wore down. This, like many game this season is a learning experience.

I understand Warso's idea at the end of the game, but I believe JD is right. He should have matched talent for talent and had Celebrini at the start of the overtime with Wennberg and then cycled Wennberg out for Graf. As to the defenseman, I would have preferred Dickinson.

But I am a fan and want nothing but the best for the team I love.

We need to remember, Warso is in his sophomore season as a coach andhe is learning too. As the coach he watched the game with better eyes for the game than we have and made a call. I on all occasions would lean on Warso, who has forgotten more about coaching and this team than all of us combined by a wide margin.

However, it does not mean we can not have our opinions, even if sometimes they are rather silly. Before we hyper ventilate over this collapse, they are 9-1 in overtime over their last ten. When was the last time a Sharks fan can boast that? AND they now have 3 out of 4 possible points.

  10. Good news was we had Edmonton on the ropes, bad news was this was a collapse we would have expected last year. I think pregame if we were told we’d get a point in Edmonton, we’d take it and run.

  11. "The San Jose Sharks: Congratulations on being the only 'predators' who needs a life jacket just to swim in circles without drowning in their own ineptness.

The Sharks are so pathetic, even the ice feels badly abused and tries to melt early in total despair.

The only thing sharper than the players' skates is the collective disappointment of their 4 loyal fans realizing they wasted their lives cheering for a franchise with all the bite of a toothless guppy in a sea of oil.

Stanley Cup? More like Stanley ‘See You Never’ Cup, you glorified aquarium exhibit in an open sewer for an aquarium.

  12. I am about to have a very unpopular opinion and I might be speaking into a void, but…

Literally nobody, absolutely nobody expected the sharks to be sniffing a wildcard or playoff spot. Maybe be bottom 5-10 and we are all happy.

It’s okay to be frustrated off of a bad coaching decision, but that decision also kind of worked until Liljegren coughed up the puck and fed the oilers transition. Was it an oversight by Warso? Yeah. But if Liljegren holds onto the puck and gets 71,2,9/6 on the ice nobody is batting an eye. Young coach and young team. Mistakes will be made. I’d rather these mistakes get made with our soon to be core who can’t even buy an alcoholic beverage in the states than have these mistakes get made when this team should be competing for a cup. It’s okay to be frustrated but holy hell, most sharks fans need to relax. It’s going to be okay.

  13. This overtime fiasco shouldn't be ignored. We put Farraro in a "position to fail!". I'm a Farraro supporter. He just isn't built for overtime. Bad decision Coach! .. and no, Coach doesn't need to be fired.

  14. Edmonton fan here – lots of teams successfully use 2 defenders to start OT against Leon and Connor and winning when they leave the ice or after they are gassed and get an offensive line out against them. That turnover in OT was just a fluke that ended in a goal against but it could have easily gone the other way. This Sharks team is on the precipice of being insanely good for a long time. Not looking forward to our teams meeting year over year in the playoffs.

  15. I don’t see any way he makes it past next year. Hopefully he gets fired this year. Our defense has got worse this year. Our special teams are bad and there’s no reason they shouldn’t be an effective pp. and he makes terrible decisions every game

  16. Possession is the most important thing in OT, think we can all agree there. Wennberg is 2-9 on the opening draw in OT all season. I reallllllllllllllly don't understand the logic behind constantly rolling him out.

Best defense is a good offense.
