  1. The As are smart for locking up these guys when other teams would pay them peanuts.

  2. Seems like a crazy deal for him to take, no? I get that he gets money now it avoids a bunch of pre-arb and arb years, but it pushes back his free agency by three years which will probably really hurt him later. Maybe there are outs for him in this deal, but he seems way too good to be paid 10 million a year. Comparing it to the deals Acuna or Tatis or BWJ got at a similar point in their careers, the number seems quite low. I guess it’d be hard to complain about locking up 70 million at a young age though.

  3. Wow, these young A’s with the extensions, I’m happy to know they are locked up but given their potential earnings would they have gone FA down the road, kind of refreshing to see this.

  4. It’s kind of funny how a 70 million dollar contract is considered big for the athletics.

  5. He’s an idiot. He could have continued under his mlb contract advancements and in 4 years had arbitration. 10 million a year for someone if his age and talent is robbery by the A’s. Hope he enjoys 4th place finishes and 90+ losing seasons.

  6. Wish the Marlins would do shit like this. It’s embarrassing the amount of extensions he has given out

  7. This young man is thinking about his future in Las Vegas. $70 Million buys a lot of good times at Sheri’s Ranch in Pahrump.

  8. That’s smart. Good good move. Early extensions are one of the biggest tools a smaller-market team can bring to bear to maintain a young core.

  9. The A’s might keep him, but that’s 7 years of team control at what could be a bargain. Makes him incredibly valuable on the trade market if he maintains or improves. On Wilson’s side, being valuable makes it more likely a contender will trade for you. In the meantime, he’s got $70M inked.
