[Passan] BREAKING: Shortstop Jacob Wilson and the Athletics are in agreement on a seven-year, $70 million contract extension that includes an eighth-year club option, sources tell ESPN. Wilson, 23, finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting last season after hitting .311/.355/.444.

9. I tried to tell everyone that once the Vegas move gets nearer, the A’s would extend their guys. I was told the A’s would never do that as long as Fisher was in charge. Mf’s have no idea how much a new stadium changes things.

32. this is a terrible deal for Wilson. imo he was going to be worth way more barring injury/regression, $10m/year is a steal. this also buys him out until he’s on the wrong side of 30. drastically cuts his earning potential right after his breakout season.

    Signing all these young players to incredibly friendly deals, the second they are in Vegas and if the team fails to be a contender I’m sure by year 2-3 they’ll be shopping all those players and be back to square one.

41. Not going to lie, but I bet being in Vegas in the near future will help them secure some talent.

    I’ve always thought being a player on the Diamondbacks would be a sweet deal. Being able to live in your own home during spring training and basically just going on 10-12 business trips per year sounds ideal.
