Based on a discussion in another thread and the popularity of the Helmet leader boards that have been posted I wanted to give some more data regarding "Star of the Game" vs "Player of the Game (Helmet)"

The Kraken have 25 wins so far:
– The helmet has NOT gone to any star of the game: 13/25 (52%)
– The helmet has gone to a star of the game: 12/25 (48%)

That breaks down into…
– The helmet has gone to the 1st star of the game: 8/25 (32%)
– The helmet has gone to the 2nd star of the game: 1/25 (4%)
– The helmet has gone to the 3rd star of the game: 3/25 (12%)

During the 24-25 season over 35 wins, the ratios were more slightly favorable towards rewarding a star of the game with the belt being rewarded to a star of the game 60% of the time

  1. Man, I didnt mean to get things going. Just based off players habits towards players that want to move from a team, I just found it weird that Wright didnt get helmet. I do think Wright loves playing with some of these players (he even made sure to grab the puck for Cattons first goal), but I can’t help to feel a little suspicious.

  2. I like how frequently the helmet has gone to players who didn’t get a star of the game! Not that it’s bad if it does, like Catton’s obviously getting both for his first goal(s), and (in Joey’s words) big goals pay the bills, so it makes sense when it goes to someone who had a clutch goal and a star. But I think it’s AWESOME when they use the helmet to recognize players who are working hard and playing the right way, but whose efforts aren’t going to show up on the scoresheet. The guy putting up two goals is going to get a star and a media scrum, the guy laying down his body eating shots from the point probably isn’t. I think highlighting those players says a lot of good about the team culture and buy-in, and people are assuming a *lot* on the part of how the first star would hypothetically feel about not also getting the helmet.

  3. That’s sick! I’ve definitely noticed sometimes it’s the “obvious” choice (like Catton with his two goals) and sometimes the more underrated choice (like Lindgren against the Blackhawks). It’s cool to see it laid out.
