Toronto has begun the process of calling around the league and seeing “what’s available to them,” according to Elliotte Friedman on the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night In Canada.
“I don’t think it would be anything that anyone right now would consider earth-shattering,” Friedman said, after reporting that captain Auston Matthews’ camp and the Maple Leafs reaffirmed their commitment to each other.
The only guy I’d be in a rush to sell is OEL
His value will never be as high as it is now and don’t want to risk an Olympic injury.
Rest can be sold at trade deadline
It’s insane that the Leafs season is essentially dead in the water and they’re sellers with 59 points right now meanwhile Vegas and Edmonton are tied atop the Pacific Division with only 5 more points (and Toronto and Vegas have the same number of wins too). Tale of two leagues this year. The east is Bettman’s wet dream of parity and the west has possibly the biggest talent discrepancy between the top and bottom in the salary cap era.
my thoughts are that i’m glad they are beginning the process because it’s what they should be doing before the deadline
We should really sell high on OEL and McMann, and depending on what the offers are look in to trading Carlo. Laughton would be nice to sign but if doesn’t want to come back at a reasonable rate then we should recoup some assets for him too
I am not against stripping it to the studs and starting again. But with no draft pick and two big talents with no trade clauses to boot I don’t think a retool with a modern nhl coach is flawed either. Watch hockey psychology, the new nhl is all about team positioning and strategy.
Watching the EDM/MIN game and wondering what we’d get back for trading Stolarz and McMann?
Even though he’s had a tough year, I’d rather have Stolarz in a playoff run.
I heard Boston wants Carlo back for Minten and 2 unprotected first rounders.
Four months late, but better than never. Everything must go. Either the Leafs mire themselves in mediocrity for the next fifteen years, or they trade every single player, and bottom out for the next four to five years, and hope to find the next generation of Matthews, Marners, and Nylanders.
Laughton, OEL, Carlo, and Mcmann should all return some decent picks and prospects. This team needs to get a bit of a youth injection. We need to draft well, similar to how Dallas did when Seguin and Benn got old.
“Toronto has begun the process of calling around the league and seeing “what’s available to them,”
Doesn’t say selling.
Honestly Matthews is injured and Nylander is a one dimensional player. How is everyone not up for trading
