We need a scoring winger, but trading Shane Wright for a 34 year old winger whose scoring has been on a decline for 3 seasons now is exactly the kind of move we should not be making. Especially since he’ll certainly demand an extension.
My confidence in Botterill is at new lows right now if this rumor is true.
Daaaamn! I’ll bet Botterill wanted to extend and that’s why he blocked.
Good. I can’t shake the feeling that any sign and trade for him that ends up with a contract longer than a couple years is going to age poorly. Hes still an effective player but he’ll also be 35 around the start of next season. Feels like a big gamble.
Good. Don’t want him.
We are very fortunate that he rejected if this is true. On the other hand, it would mean our front office is even more incompetent than we thought. I’m really hoping this rumor holds no weight or else we might be seeing another terrible contract on another aging player in the near future.

Panarin doing us a big favor if this rumor is true.
1. I like that they’re trying to make some moves.
2. Brrrrruh.
I like that they are trying to do some things. I don’t like that these are the things they are trying to do. 😂
Yeah I don’t believe this, this site has a horrible UI, the author has no social media presence (correction I found a [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/share/16uL8H8wyQ/?mibextid=wwXIfr) profile with a profile pic of Craig Berube) whatsoever and the report cannot be confirmed through a secondary report. This is a person with no connection who I can’t even confirm to be real just making stuff up for clicks.
Do I think we land Panarin? No absolutely not, but if this trade was to the point that the player was presented with the option you would hear about it from Friedman or Seravalli, or Pagnotta, or Chris Johnston, or hell ANY NEW YORK REPORTER.
TLDR; Not a real report and maybe not a real person, wait for an actual reporter
Thank god, no need for another aged vet, no matter the scoring ability
thankfully, no reputable sources echoing this.
My guess if someone is leaking the Kraken are blocked- I would guess that someone’s agent made a call and was told no by the kraken. Botterill cannot be that stupid to want him plus and extension along with his baggage which will play exceptionally poorly in a market that theyre fighting for fan time and relevance. My guess is this is I broke up with you first kind of rumor. Because face it, getting rejected by the Kraken means you’re probably really damaged goods
A few lessons for the trade deadline since this could be the first time in our history that we could be serious buyers:
-Beware trade rumors from random blogs. Has this been confirmed by any other outlet/reporter?
-Almost any buying trade at the deadline is going to be a younger guy and picks for an older guy. Teams with top flight talent that’s still in its prime are generally also still competing and aren’t looking to give that up (even if they aren’t competing). If it’s not Panarin, it’s probably going to be someone else that’s 30 or older. It’s the price of trying to upgrade your team.
That said…
As far as this season is concerned, Panarin would have been a great pickup (still scoring at MORE than a pt/gm on a very bad NYR team), and would definitely be an upgrade over where Wright is now.
The deal would have hinged on what extension was offered. 2-3 years would have been fine. 5-6 years like Marchand would have been an over pay and not worth sacrificing Wright’s potential. But the article doesn’t say anything about what was offered, so hard to make any kind of accurate judgement. But either way, don’t get why folks are talking about it like this was a near fuck up by Botterill. Do we want to upgrade our scoring or not? Because this is the only way that’s happening in season.
This makes me think that Shane wants out of Seattle. But until that time, I’ll dance with who brung me.
Y’all really do not trust this front office at all. Bad rumor, no sourcing and no reputable insider has picked it up since.
I, for one, am elated that we won’t be receiving a mediocre sex pest as a member of our team
Seattle needs high end talent. But Seattle does not need that talent to be on the wrong side of 30. Especially if Wright is going to be the player who gets moved out.But I am glad GMJB tried.
Until a credible source says anything about this — ignore it. People get so panicked
Panarin was never going to come here. Shane was never getting traded for him
Ha. If one of the reputable NHL reporters put this out there, I’d believe. NHLTradeRumors? Yeah, not so much. Clickbait.
I’m passing on Breadman because I don’t have the yeast amount of interest in a deal that costs that much dough. I was hoping for a star who would rise to the occasion, but this trade just feels totally deflated.
honestly thank g*d bc i do not want the moral crisis of having a known sex pest on our team
Botterill out now. If it’s true at least.
Fake news
I’d take this with a huge grain of salt, there are a ton of totally nonsense rumors floating around about him.
Trading for him also makes no sense, the Kraken aren’t in “win now” mode and trading younger guys or picks would be dumb to get an aging player back.
