[Seravalli] Predators franchise icon and GM Barry Trotz is addressing his team this morning to inform them of his decision to retire.
Thankfully, Trotz’s decision is not health related. Trotz will remain in the post until his successor is found.

Why would he do that only 2.5 seasons in if it’s not health related? Are they soft forcing him to retire? So confused.
Glad to hear it’s not health related. Now I can celebrate this excellent news with a clear conscience.
Great coach but made a terrible GM.
The Preds have traded away good players with good contracts and have taken on some of the worst players and contacts I’ve seen (Skjei). The players are poorly put together and the team is mid at its BEST.
I’m happy it isn’t for health reasons and they’re doing this now rather than another year or two from now.
I’m so grateful for everything Trotz did for this team in the expansion days and I’m proud of him for his coaching career. That being said, this team needs a shakeup in a bad way. We’ve been in a free fall since the Hynes era, so I’m hopeful that this will lead to a fresh voice in the front office and hopefully a sustainable positive shake up to the teams identity
Glad to hear everything seems to be okay with his health/family.
This is very well-timed ahead of the Olympics. Trading freeze starts on Wednesday.
Roman & Fil & Erik & Juuse will be making their countries proud in Italy, meanwhile back at home ownership will have ~3 weeks to find a new GM and see where they go from there (likely the detonation/wholesale purge us fans have been begging for).
Yeah it had to be done. It doesn’t seem like he had any long term direction for this team. Wish him well in retirement
After coaching for so long and jumping into GM maybe he has just burned out. It’s hard to imagine firing was ever a possibility at this point. He was doing fine all things considered. Skjei and Marchessault are bad but everything else he did is looking perfectly fine.
Trotz is def an OG. Do I think he was ready for GM? No.
Is he learning? Yes. Can he get there? maybe. GM is an old boys club and others have done worse and continue to have a job. I think for him he was too focused on the trees and not the forest.
Were his drafting choices good? Yes, I think w proper training there are really good old school “team” players. Are there any superstars drafts (tbd), he’ll Josi was a 2nd rounder, and McCarron was a 1st btw.
Do I think he flubbed FA? Yes. I completely understand swinging for the fences. And I am ok w 1 or 2 bets like that but Stammer, Haula, Bunting, Marchassault, Skeji, Hague was just too many and it didn’t pan out.
Though I do think treating Oreilly like he has a nmc is pretty loyal.
Should be Scotty Nichol.
Do you think Trotz reads the sub and was like “yeah, nvm”
Jokes aside, I’m really happy this isn’t health related and I wish him the best moving forward. I am super curious if brunette is now going to feel some heat… I know that other franchises for sure are would’ve made a coaching change last season with how that went
Glad it’s nothing health related!
But like where do we go from here? Is there any realistic chance we find a GM during the Olympic break? In general, what happens with the new GM? Idk if they’re able to make immediate adjustments that soon
Glad it’s not health related at least. Everything else remains to be seen.
I think he was too nice. GM has to be cuttthroat where you promise a guy the world one day and trade him the next. Trotz won’t do that for better or worse
GET. STEVE. SULLIVAN.
I believe there will be big changes incoming. I‘m happy Josi made his 1000 before the changes, because he deserved that. But now i‘m sure he will be tradet to a real Cup contender. And the Preds will build a new team.

I wonder if he, after decades as a head coach, had it in him to fire coaches. The whole league has wondered how he was so patient with Andrew Brunette and I wonder if the team President and ownership were pushing to get a change behind the bench but Trotz was unwilling to do it.
