URGENCY: Orlando Magic trade deadline moves — Team MUST Upgrade, Not Just Save

The Orlando Magic face a pivotal trade deadline with their playoff ambitions on the line.

While the Magic’s main goal likely remains to get under the tax, they must not be satisfied and must look to add a key player off their bench. They must aggressively reshape their roster to keep up with the East and support a (slowly) improving roster.

The Magic know they have a lot of pieces in place with a strong starting lineup and the coming-soon return of Franz Wagner. But it is also clear this team is not a title contender yet, and they need to bolster their bench to achieve their goals. Especially with competitors eyeing Earth-shifting moves that could push the Magic down the pecking order.

Can Orlando add a scoring punch off the bench and duck the luxury tax, or will they be stuck on the margins and in the Play-In yet again?

  3. Regardless of roster, we need more leadership from the staff. This team isn’t experienced enough playing good basketball to just improvise and find mismatches. Why can’t we get the ball to P5 closer to the basket? Where’s the P5/bane 2 man game? You can’t just tell them to “move the ball side to side” or just “sit down and guard.” It’s not enough, we need leadership to get the most of our young talent.

Not disagreeing today – just don't think the front office is willing to change their course which seems at most to expect the Magic make the second round of the playoffs and then wait another year with new hopes of the maturing process leading to greater things. Interesting contrast to other truly successful teams.

  14. We’ve a stale 5 out offense w little to no off ball movement, no intention to get Paolo post up opportunities, & everybody 25 ft away from the basket. Coach never takes accountability for the offense being trash. If he can’t devise a better offensive game plan, then Chris Paul/Jusuf Nurkic are the dudes I see helping us w our biggest weakness. It’s not as simple as getting more shooting (KCP/Bane), we need guys who are table setters, embrace creating for others. Nurk on an expiring deal, truly don’t think he’d make us worse, but if it’s not a great fit, 19mil coming off the books after this season

  18. The bench is strong on defense with JI, AB, Goga and Penda. Tyus Jones is neither scoring nor defending. A 3-point marksman guard is needed, unless Jet fills that need.

  19. Its time for a serious package. Send Carter Jr out with Goga, Isaac, Jett and Tyus and go after a starting center and bring in some damn bench 3 point shooting. Charlotte is coming after us and we are still chilling around the 8th seed. Its time to defib this team back to life. No waiting or we will be back in the play in or worse missing playoffs

  23. Let go PG Jones, and give the minimum salary to Victor Oladipo, he has been balling in the GL. Just saying, Oladipo can bring instant defense and offense, a second chance wont hurt!!
