Among Twins position players, Buxton is currently 9th all-time in bWAR (29.8)

He will almost certainly pass Bob Allison this year (30.6), and by the time his current contract ends with the Twins, he may enter the top 6 (if he averages 3 WAR over the next 3 years, he’ll pass Chuck Knoblauch [38] and Kent Hrbek [38.6]).

If, god-willing, he signs an extension or another contract with the Twins to finish his career, he’ll have a shot at entering the top 5 (which will mean passing Tony Olivia at 43.1). Although he could theoretically pass him in the next 3 years by averaging 4.5 WAR.

That would put him behind only Rod Carew (63.8), Harmon Killebrew (56.8), Joe Mauer (55.6) and Kirby Puckett (51.1).

  1. He might not be a young Buck anymore, but it’s too early for this talk. I’m seeing Buxton play into his late 30’s, ending his career as a corner outfielder/DH with at least 3 more all star appearances, a couple more HRD, 100 more home runs at least, and at least 50 more stolen bases at an elite percentage, which he currently sits at around 90%. Keep him healthy, and ffs can we get some pitching.

  2. I’m hopeful he can string together some healthy seasons, averaging the production he had last year.

Interestingly, Buxton has had 6 seasons with the Twins with a WAR of 3 or higher. Torii Hunter had 7 seasons with the Twins with a WAR of 3 or above. Torii went on to add 5 more +3 WAR seasons with the Angels.

  3. As a Buxton fan, he needs to wave his no trade and go to a different team. The loyalty is cute but this team has just lied to him and they are going nowhere. Go play for a real team Byron. We would get it.
