  1. Worth noting the pirates hired the Astros pitching coach who worked with Valdez since 2016 this season 🤷‍♂️

  2. Wonder if this could be a signing that lets them trade a younger prospect for a hitter

  3. Valdez turned down a one-year $22M qualifying offer from the Astros, so Pirates would need to at least match that over multiple years, plus I believe surrendering a draft pick. In other words, nothing to see here.

  4. If by some miracle this were to happen, what about offering Bubba for Bryce Eldridge? We would have to move O’Hearn to LF, which wouldn’t be ideal defensively, but it might be a half-decent offense.

  5. People bitch when they didn’t do anything, now they’re bitching because they’re trying to do something. I hope you guys know that players are in charge of their own careers. They decide where they want to go, not GMs or owners. Suarez didn’t wanna play in Pittsburgh over Cincinnati

  6. I was reading how his stock came down after his poor showing the last few games he pitched and incident he had with his catcher over “crossed signals”. He may just sign a prove it deal for much less than the Astros offered.

  7. Honestly – this is the direction I wanted us to go for weeks now.

I think I would’ve been happier with Ranger Suarez but Valdez would also work for me.

  8. This move would get my stamp of approval.

I know that they need (like, desperately!) a 3B, but you can never have too much starting pitching, especially when you are banking on young guys who may not be able to go the whole season because of innings limits.

Ashcraft had ~120 IP, between AAA and PGH. Chandler had 131. Jones is coming back from elbow surgery.

Having a guy that has not had a season with less than 176 IP in any of the last four seasons would be a very welcome addition, especially when they aren’t junk innings either. His worst ERA during that span is 3.66 and he’s been under 3.00 in 2/4.

  9. Trade Keller for Baty or Vientos (need for need, Mets infield is also a major surplus after this offseason.)

Use that money saved from Kellers salary to sign Framber.

  10. Keller has to appeal to the Mets in this scenario, and Vientos should be the move. Soften the prospect package a lot with Keller too. Then it’s Cutch and home (or Ozuna… or hell Pham)
