Context: Gavin McKenna, freshman Penn State hockey player (Carter also went to Penn State), was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, and two summary offenses after allegedly breaking a man’s jaw for insulting his mother. McKenna was/is projected to go #1 in the 2026 NHL Draft.

  2. Ok, it was the “unacceptable but understandable” type of assault, not the “this guy should rot in hell” assault.

  7. maybe its me and while insulting mothers isn’t my thing, I certainly wouldn’t do that to a hockey players mom.

  13. I’m seeing this more often in sports where fans cross the line, bully, harass, threaten them and family members. I’m all for booing the visiting team but some fans think the price of the ticket includes demeaning the players and coaches. Regardless if they make millions or they are amateur athletes… no one deserves this. Imagine being treated this way at your workplace when clients, coworkers and supervisors are unhappy with your performance. We all have bad days, we’re all human.

  14. Sometimes you have to do things you don’t agree with or typically wouldn’t do. It’s wrong, but you are okay with what you did cause you know your wrong was right.

  17. This should just up his draft stock. Hockey bro being able to break a jaw isn’t exactly a downside in a league where the penalty for punching someone in the face is sitting for five minutes.

  18. According to this article McKenna was out at a pub after a game with his teammates and their families, including McKenna’s mom. The group was leaving Doggie’s when a person began heckling McKenna and his mother, with teammates attempting to diffuse the situation, and trying to get the person to leave McKenna and his family alone.

    The incident escalated after the person began name-calling McKenna’s mother, according a source.

  21. Just makes him a better hockey prospect if he can break a jaw. Most people would do the same if you called their mother a whore . Charges will be dropped as soon as a jury hears it
