I think one of two things happened:
1. It was a leverage play by his agent.
2. His camp opened up to lower term deals and the Pirates jumped on board hoping for a one or two year deal. The Tigers came hard with that offer (interesting timing giving Skubal’s arb) and just wasn’t going to beat if you wanted lower term.
