First, I did this very quickly so there might be a few errors, or maybe even someone I forgot about! Second, there are some holes in the roster, such as a 4th line center, and where do you play some of the veterans versus the younger players. Tarasenko vs. Bolduc, or Edmundson vs. Tucker are good examples.
No attempt was made to verify LW vs. RW, sorry.
Also my goal was to make the roster cap compliant, so I quickly just looked at this year’s cap hits only, and that was no problem.
Name and (cap hit):
What would you do different?
How far does this team go?
Snuggerud (0.95), Thomas (8.1), Barbashev (5.0)
Kyrou (8.1), T. Thompson (7.1), Neighbours (3.75)
Perron (4), Dvorsky (0.89), Bolduc (0.86)
Reaves (1.35), Toropchenko (1.7), Schwartz (5.5)
Parayko (6.5), Dunn (7.35)
Walman (3.4), Mikkola (2.5)
I. Cole (2.8), Edmundson (3.85)
Hofer (3.4)
Binnington (6.0)
Comes in only at $83 million vs current cap hit $95.5 million cap, so $12 million for extras skaters! Here’s that list and the honorable mentions:
Tarasenko (4.75)
Stenberg (0.92)
Fabbri (0.78)
Kessel (0.8)
Tucker (0.96)
Petro (IR 8.8)
Ellis (.78)
J. Allen (1.8)

Looks like a team that spends 80% of the season about 4 points out of a WC spot and picks 13th.
This team also exists in a world where we never win a Cup, and for that reason I hate it.
Crazy there’s potentially $12 million under cap, but a few full time NHLers left off roster. I think it shows how good the Blues are at drafting and developing complimentary players.
Not to be nit picky, but this doesn’t ‘work’. For example you say no trades, so I was looking to see when this no trades situation began, and there’s not a world where this lineup could exist.
The Blues traded Ian Cole to Pit on March 2nd, 2015. With Cole being on the team, then the no trades stipulation has to kick in before March 2nd, 2015. But on June 24th, 2016, the Blues traded Brian Elliott to the Flames for a 2016 2nd rounder, which they used to take Jordan Kyrou, who’s *also* on this team. On the same day, they traded their 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder (both in 2016) to Washington to move up 2 spots to select Tage Thompson.
Cool thought experiment, but this feels like picking and choosing to keep the good trades (i.e. Kyrou and Thompson) but ignoring the bad ones. It also can’t account for pick trades (such as the Tage Thompson trade up)
Thomas Thompson and neighbors should be first line
Kyrou snuggie and barbashev second line
Schwartz on third line with dvo and tarasenko
4th line – uninjured sundqvist, bolduc, and schenn
Dmen- broberg – petro
Mikkola – parayko
Dunn – Bortuzzo 😉
I didnt look at the cap or have any idea what parameters you used to create the lineup but this is what I would do with somewhat recent players that are barely retired or technically never playing again.
