[Flames Talk] Pat Steinberg on Mackenzie Weegar, “They don’t need to trade them, but if all of a sudden there’s some value there, if we’re talking about a similar package in terms of what the Flames just got for Rasmus Anderson, I think that that could very well be on the table.”

Wouldn’t he cost more since he has lots of term left, 5 years left at a reasonable cap hit of $6.25m plus he’s a RHD who can play on either on the right side or left side
I’d miss Weegs, but that is exactly what the Flames front office should be doing. Listening on offers for anyone who doesn’t fit the long term rebuild plans. The biggest risk in moving everyone is that the team mentality and winning culture needs to be protected
Losing Weegar would suck. He’s had nothing but a great attitude since being traded here. No excuses, no whining, no trade requests, just genuinely wants to be part of the solution. When he’s on his game I genuinely still think he’s still a top 15 dman in the nhl. Not saying trading him would be the wrong decision necessarily, but it would be certainly sad to see.
Ya you’re in absolutely no rush to trade Weegar unless you get offered something you simply can’t refuse.
derp
If Weegar was having a good year I could see an offer like this happening but he has been awful most of the season so I just don’t see him being traded.
Weegar is a top line defenceman experiencing probably his worst season in a decade and easily his worst season as a Flame.
He’s at worst a #2 defenceman but he’s also not young (just turned 32). He’s a fantastic player on a ridiculously cheap, long term contract.
If Connie can get GOOD value, sure, do it. He doesn’t fit our window. Love the guy but I don’t really want a 35-36 year old Gio situation again where we could’ve gotten a King’s ransom and chose not to.
I’d miss him but it’d absolutely be the wise thing to do to trade him if we’re offered fair value. IMO the return should be higher than what Ras fetched simply because Weegar’s contract is an A+. If I was a contending team’s GM, Weegar would be #1 on my list of players to go after because he’s being paid like a #4 defenceman and he’s a low end #1 d man.
Everything is on the table, no exceptions.
If weegar is traded, maybe wait another year and hope he plays better. Just to max out his value
I wouldn’t be happy with getting what Rasmus netted us for Weegar, am I missing something?
Not having a great season but I think he’s an important, versatile player that’s worth way more than the Randerson haul. I would prefer to hang onto him and help shepherd the new blood onto the blue line
You need some veteran presence to protect these rookies and bring them along.
