👉 Brewers Make Surprise Trade Before Spring Training — Who’s Playing 3B in 2026?
The Milwaukee Brewers strike again just days before Spring Training, pulling off another notable offseason trade with the Boston Red Sox. The Brewers send Caleb Durbin, Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler, and a draft pick to Boston in exchange for two pitchers and an infielder, reshaping their roster heading into the 2026 season.
Brewers radio host Dominic Cotroneo (@Dom_Cotroneo) breaks down everything you need to know about the deal — from who’s coming to Milwaukee, to which players could make an immediate impact in 2026, and the biggest question of all: who is going to play third base for the Crew?
What does this move say about the Brewers’ direction? Is this a win-now trade, a long-term play, or both? We dive into the full analysis, roster implications, and how this trade fits into Milwaukee’s bigger picture as Spring Training approaches.

Ok but who is going to hit the ball!!!
The Jesus Made era needs to begin!
Dom is so goated
Trade for Alec Bohm. Last year before FA. Phillies have prospecta coming.
As a Red Sox fan, David Hamilton is a super good defensive second baseman, however his SS defense is among the worst I’ve ever seen. Trust me it’s that drastic
You can only have so many pitchers. Our offense was not good last year and advanced metrics say we got very lucky. We trade a couple guys who were just good but didn’t actually upgrade anywhere for next year. We continue playing the long, weak game where we are just OK with winning in the regular season. We haven’t had a WS roster since 2018 and we consistently wait on prospects who end up becoming completely useless instead of trading some to get a bonefide hitter. We have one of the best farm systems and I promise you half of these guys we’ll never see in MLB. So trade some and upgrade the already good MLB team. It seems like we’re constantly rebuilding the roster. Just go for it already!!
It seems like this trade was also to open up spots in AA and AAA for the large # of middle infielders we have. But the issue is nobody is MLB ready yet — maybe one will emerge early on in the season and get called up but Arnold cannot say with a straight face he’s confident in 2 of these guys to play SS/3B effectively and hit above average – even average.
Who's next ?
"Blocking the pipeline" this season? Which one of those infield prospects is ready to play this season? Aren't they blocking the pipeline with pitchers?
Would the Brewers make a move for a player like Isaac Paredes now?
Devastating moves for all the short kings
Thank you for the very informative video. Much better than some others out there.
It's going to be a very interesting spring. Hopefully this team will have some consistency at the plate. I think last year we were fortunate that 1or 2 different guys would go on absolute heaters.
They call David Hamilton the Blizzard because he is so fast.
They are mailing in 2026, counting on an extended lockout for 2027 and positioning for 2-3 of the prospects to come up in 2028. And then we’ll be told “ give those 2-3 prospects a year or two to really mature while these other prospects get their feet wet”.. yada, yada, yada …
David Hamilton is so bad. Terrible defender and can’t hit the ball. Super fast but that’s it. Sox fans are throwing a parade because he’s gone.
