Do I think he was good for us? No. Should we have paid that much? No. Did he try his best? Yes. Was the Carr-to-Shaheed connection special? Yes.

He’s not even in my top 7 all-time-saints QB list (he’s 8 lmao) but I’m not gonna sit here and pretend like he was all bad. He did right by us. Retired early, sat out a year, saved us 30 million, and potentially gives us more capital via a trade if he comes back. Stand up guy with a horrendous Dennis Allen HC. Not gonna act like Derek Carr would be a slam dunk success story under any another HC either.

Idk. I feel a light nostalgia coming on for the Carr era in a scrappy/growing pains way. Doesn’t mean it was good. Just a time in the past. Cheers to Carr for exiting the best way he could. You took care of us, we’ll wish you the best on your way (maybe) back into the league.

My all time saints QB ranking btw

(1) Brees

(2) Manning

(3) Everett

(4) Brooks

(5) Winston (personality + witnessing lasik Jameis 5 game run) (also dancing on crutches Jameis with a torn ACL is a top 10 all time Saints moment)

(6) Taysom Hill (just as a QB tho; not overall… clearly)

(7) Shough (recency and active bias status)

(8) Carr

  1. Derek Carr wasn’t really terrible for us, he was just the wrong quarterback at the wrong time. He never really embraced this city the way other players have and that’s something that comes with the job of being QB for the Saints. I was happy when we signed him but now I’m relieved that he’s not on the team anymore.

  2. My pov, Hebert was head and shoulders above Everett. If the statistics don’t bear that out the emotions certainly do.

  3. Carr was tbh a good QB here. He went 9-8 first year, 3500 yards 25 TDs to 8 Picks. Honestly not bad of a year

Next year he had a 101 QB rating.

Unfortunately a lot of unlucky injuries took a toll. For example if Carr never gets injured that Packers game in 2023 our season is a lot different. We make the playoffs plain and simple imo

2024 we all know what happened.

I was one of the few ppl that was sad to see Carr retire. But don’t get me wrong I am very happy for the potential of Shough

  4. The Saints didn’t want to rebuild after Payton left. In retrospect they should have stuck with Dalton (and his cheap contract) until they found a potential long term QB.

  5. Hearing the story of Teddy Bridgewater riding a bike to games in NOLA and letting kids ride their bikes with him was special. He was great for us too.

  6. First of all, Taysom shouldn’t be on the list. Secondly, let’s slow roll Shough. After Aaron Brooks first year, we would’ve had him higher on the list. Bobby Hebert should be on the list. Before or after Aaron Brooks, it really doesn’t matter.

Derek Carr was fine. He was who he always was for New Orleans. He’s got a good arm, he’s accurate. He is absolutely terrible under pressure, and will do nothing. The Saints had a lot of problems when he was playing too. At the time it was a good signing, because he was a legit guy that gave us a chance. It didn’t work out, shit happens.

Winston, why aren’t we putting Jeff Blake on there then. Why Not wade Wilson. If we’re putting Winston on a list, anybody can get on that list. Winston, in the history of the Saints, is a who gives a shit player is my point. He started some games, great, congratulations.

  7. He had a respectable record with us, above .500 in starts. His retirement helped us catch up so much on the cap. If we really do start on a new era, he was basically a successful bridge QB for us, practically speaking. It’s unfortunate he had those injuries during his tenure here, but it’s in the past. In the now, I’d LOVE if we could get like a 4th for him or greater.

  8. How the hell is everyone overlooking Bridgewaters 5-0 run in 2019 to send the saints to the no call championship game. Ya know Jeff Blake was a thing before Brooks came along id put him i there for good measure.

  9. I’d put Chase over Aaron. He’s also the freakin’ model for making the most money possible with the least playing time/taking damage

  10. wasnt alive to watch everett but how is everett not the same as carr just in the 90s. put up respectable stats but the saints sputtered and were quickly turning into sour milk.
