An Inside Look at Rockets Rising Star Amen Thompson

  1. If he can just learn how to dribble, shoot, and pass, he’s really gonna be somebody

  2. Despite all the downers and haters right now, I love the progress Amen is making. If you expected him to be a complete player 3 years in, you had unrealistic expectations.

He came in with a broken shooting form. It shows how much effort he made by hitting 80% ft shooting. Next year I expect him to hit his middy at a decent rate and the next few years he probably gets a decent 3pt %.

Take into account that he wasn’t even supposed to be a full time starting pg yet. The injury to Fred forced us to plug him into a position he is not comfortable in. His handle is great and functional for a sf but it looks worse because he is playing pg. If we had Fred, amen would be relegated to 3rd or 4th creator. Without Fred he is now one of the top 3 creating options.

Amen might not ever be a Cp3 type of pure pg that sees 3 or 4 steps ahead. He can definitely be a Westbrook or rose type of guard that gets easy ast by forcing so much rim pressure on defenses.

  3. People are being dramatic about his flaws right now but he is *leading the team* in on-off metrics, even beating out notable +/- god Steven Adams.

Rockets with Amen ON court: #3 offense, #5 defense

Rockets with Amen OFF court: #21 offense, #21 defense

He’s coming through for us even if it doesn’t look like the exact development curve you imagined for him.
