Pavel Datsyuk the Magic Man

  1. He really does have the perfect nickname. McDavid obviously has unparalleled skating and hands that can keep up with that speed. Crosby has unbelievable vision and ability to see the game several steps ahead of anyone else and is probably once of the best board battlers the game has seen.

Datsyuk’s ability was to have the audacity to try ridiculous plays and he’d make it look like he’d practiced it 10,000 times. In a lot of cases he actually might have. But it wouldn’t surprise me if some of his moves were just ad libbed. I imagine him kind of like a cat doing cat physics. Trying to figure out all the weird ways things fall off shelves. He probably practiced some really strange ways the puck can be moved with his stick. Made it look like physics didn’t apply to him.

[This](https://youtu.be/Okjmu0z_uvk?si=4og65ZV_gjUa4EyU) clip was one of my favorites. I’d seen all his top plays live. The Couture bday gift, the Weber back check, the gif of sharks players running into each other, the breakaways. But that goal left me wondering, “how the fuck did he do that? He just reached as far back as he could with his stick, flicked his wrist and sent the puck up ice between his legs.”
