Pirates spring training: Do Ben Cherington’s moves for Marcell Ozuna, Ryan O’Hearn deserve buzz?

Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts GM Ben Cherington’s offseason moves as Pirates spring training gets underway in Bradenton, Fla.

Do GM Ben Cherington’s offseason moves for names like Ryan O’Hearn, Brandon Lowe, Marcell Ozuna and Jake Mangum deserve the buzz they’re getting from fans? Are more trades and signings needed to make manager Don Kelly’s roster a legit National League contender around Paul Skenes, Oneil Cruz, Mitch Keller, Bryan Reynolds and other members of the team’s core? Or could this team contend for an MLB postseason appearance as constructed?
Paul tackles those questions and more.

  1. Watch how good this pitching staff is with even a little bit of offense. They lost like 50 games by 1run. They were historically pathetic on offense. The Pirates got some dudes! Lowe is a fantastic player. Ozuna is a terrific power hitter. Pumped this year!
