Why did Legarrette Blount have a knockout rookie season, followed by a solid 2nd year, just to never start a game 3rd year?

  1. He couldn’t catch the ball out of the backfield and couldn’t block, so he was virtually a 1 or 2 down back.

Greg Schiano came in and convinced Mark Dominik that we needed a “bell-cow” back, so Blount became expendable after we drafted Doug Martin (who was meant to be that bell-cow back).

Ultimately, he was traded for a guy who couldn’t play football but could run really fast (Jeff Demps, who was an Olympic level sprinter).

  2. Blount and many other young players were very distracted and never took the game seriously. Josh Freeman would have to tell him what to do before every single play. He matured when he went to New England and became a better player.
