ESPN’s analyst vs current seeding

  1. Meh. They’re currently exceeding expectations. The only question is by how much. Health willing, they’ll exceed them by a lot. Championship or not, it’s already a successful season considering the expert opinions, much like my Patriots imo

  2. I was honestly appalled during the start of the season how analysts, not just from ESPN, but across all media that they do not buy our roster comp. Maybe because they were not really paying attention to our “not-too-sexy” off-season moves and how they addressed the critical weaknesses of the team. I was so hyped with our depth chart and these analysts were low balling the Spurs. I’m so glad that they’re eating crow right now.

  3. Honestly I feel like nobody expected us to be this good. I even saw an interview before of Wemby and he said they want to be 6th seed. Nobody expected us to be this good.

And with how good Harper and Bryant is looking, we are becoming even scarier.

Off topic, I’m hoping Nuggets fall to the 4th spot. I want to only battle one of OKC or Nuggets in the playoffs. I feel they are the biggest threat for us.

  4. 7.1% chance to make the playoffs was a crazy take ngl. I get that ppl were lower on the Spurs, but that’s way too low…

  5. Vegas set the over under on wins for us before the season at 44.5 and then quickly moved it down to 43.5 meaning most were taking the under.

We have made a huge leap this year

  6. No one saw this success this year. Seems at least a 1, if not 2, ahead of schedule.

    GSG

  7. I feel like this was Tim Legler’s prediction, I remember him being super low on us, lower than any other media guy

  8. Nobody expected the Grizzlies to be as bad as they are. The Clippers and the Warriors are also declining. The Lakers are also not as good as people expected them to be.

  9. Tbh, strange that 42 wins would only be projected at 7% to make the playoffs. The joys of the western conference 🤦🏻‍♂️

  10. No one really expected SAS to be this good already… As many were saying they are already ahead of their time frame… As Wemby and Castle were starting to develop their games, and they have rookie Harper which has potential…

And some new players are leveling up recently like Bryant … So Spurs are doing very well right now, so regardless of what happened in the playoffs, your team already exceeded the expectations

  11. Regardless what will happen in the playoffs. The Sours already overachieved this year

  12. Only mainstream talking heads I remember being high on the Spurs were Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons. iirc they had the team at 50+ wins in their season preview

  13. Mo Dakhil and Zach Lowe said we’d be a play-in team floor 5-6 seed upside, 44 win season on Zach Lowes podcast in September

Windy had us over 44 wins

Bontemps said we were 3 years out of being as good as Houston and took under on 44 wins. He also said we’d be 5-6th in the East with Detroit but he did say we’d be most interesting team to Watch.

Mcmahon had us at over 44 wins and said we’d take a significant step and be a playoff team

    …people don’t forget

  14. I’m still annoyed that my online betting website wouldn’t show the Spurs during the first weeks of the season. The O/U was a 44.5 for a while, and they had separate , deeper odds to make the playoffs, but for some reason, the Spurs weren’t an option to bet on. I would’ve taken that 2.5x in a heartbeat.

  15. Nate Duncan said on our season preview episode that Stephon Castle was the most overrated player in the NBA

Then again, a few years ago he said POP was overrated 🥴

    lmao

  16. I had the Spurs around the 50 win marker in october, a little personal flex of mine – yet I also had the Celtics down the gutter

  17. I am so proud of this team and very happy that I was very comfortable at being over on that prediction. There was just too much talent for us not to be solid this year

  18. I keep saying if the reason Cade and brown are in the mvp race because of team performance vs expectation Wemby should be mvp front runner given where we are this season and how far ahead of schedule we are

  19. I was, with the rest of em, wanting 6th seed at the start of the season.
I also don’t think we’re a real contender yet (a good RS team, that has exploitable weaknesses – shot selection varies, 3pt defense consistently terrible, streaky shooting).

However, this take is bananas even to me.

I’d say we’re almost a lock for playoffs, and have a good chance to advance past the first round. I’d even say we have an outside shot to win it all this year.

Thank you for this nugget, this is hilarious. A team at 37-16 projected to go 42-42 and miss the playoffs. Lol

  20. I put $100 on the spurs winning 50 games before this season started to make $3500. Best bet I made all season

  21. TBF I didn’t expect us to be this good either. My expectation for the season was play-in or fringe playoff team like 6 seed max. 2 seed has been a huge but welcome shock. I thought this was the gap year between the tanking and contending where you get a year of experience. Turns out we skipped the gap.

  22. There’s been alot of moving parts around the league, but before preseason started, if healthy for most the season I had us at 50+ wins and advancing to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

We haven’t been fully healthy….and I think with some luck, a championship is a possibility NOW

  23. A lot of people on this sub thought we would be a play in team and complained that we were paying Fox only to likely be an 8th seed or something like that

  24. Im not going to be a delusional fan, this team seems like a 2nd round exit right now just based on lack of playoff experience. Id love to at least make the conference finals but realistically i think we clear the 1st round then fizzle out.

  25. I really believed we were going to get to at least 50 and 55 felt very doable. I wasn’t even trying to be a homer – this just looks like a home court advantage team.

  26. Like I know we are a super young team but that 42 wins projected seemed low to me even then. I felt we would at least hover in the 45-48 win range and make the playoffs for sure. Last year we won 34 games and that was with Wemby missing almost half the season, fox only playing a handful of games. So being projected at 42 wins with both of those guys fully healthy, the signing of Kornet, addition of Harper and year 2 of castle seemed super to low. Glad to see the guys playing so well beyond expectations:)
