[Bannon] The Jays, a league source said, are still involved in the SP market. There are plenty of options left in free agency, including Gallen, Littell and Giolito. The easiest move, though, is a reunion with Scherzer or Bassitt… Scherzer, in particular, could be an ideal fit

  1. Bring back Bassitt please. Allows us to go to a 6 man rotation if we needed to ease innings on Bieber and Yesavage and he slots in well for late season bullpen usage. I know the cost will be high, but I also wouldn’t hate him being on a 2 year deal so we have some insurance for next year when we lose a few starters. I’m also fine with Lauer being permanently in the bullpen.

  2. I feel like Bassit out of the pen was already a lock for some reason. The fact that isn’t reality is throwing me for a spin right now.

  3. I can see a world where they go with Bassitt or Scherzer but the other 3 don’t make a ton of sense. Especially Gallen having the QO attached to him. I’d like to see them make a trade for a bat.

  4. What if we sign Scherzer to a coaching position and the second we get to a point in the season where we need him, we just sign him to a roster deal.

  5. I really don’t see why we’re not jumping on a reunion with Bassitt. Solid pitcher, great club house guy, team player willing to slot into BP if need be. Unless his asking price is insane im just not understanding

  6. The obvious answer for me is for Ross to bring back Bassitt but I also would be interested in getting Zac Gallen if it doesn’t work out

  7. More worried about bats than arms at the moment – I think we’re underestimating the loss of Bo – although it only takes one more starter injury to change that.

  8. Please bring Bassitt and Scherzer back. You simply cannot recreate that kind of team chemistry. Plus bassist is a stud out of the BP.

  9. Good with either Max or Bassett. Max didn’t have a great season but was good in the postseason. Bassett was amazing in the pen in playoffs if he is good w doing that now when we have a full healthy rotation.

  10. Gallen really wants to stay in AZ I’ve read, but I do like him and think he has a good opportunity for a comeback year.

  11. Bassitt is a no brainer for me. Scherzer I’m less certain about but it is a long season and you need meat for the grinder so to speak

  12. Isn’t Bassitt the better get vs. Scherzer? Just in terms of all stats and use cases? Scherzer would probably cost $13.5mil for the year to be honest based on Verlander getting $13mil

  13. But…why?

I get that beiber may not be ready to start the year, and Trey is a bit of a wild card, but we have Berrios and Lauer who can, and probably should factor into the rotation, along with Gaus/Cease/Ponce.

I could see them getting a swing man to be a AAAA guy, because Francis isn’t pitching this year most of those guys aren’t going to sign here to be a AAAA guy.

  14. Bring back BOTH Scherzer and Bassitt. I’d sign Bassitt right now to stabilize the pitching end of things and get Scherzer in a couple months when he’s ready to do his thing.
