Essentially it seems like the team saw what happened with the recent games against the Habs and Pens and might look into restricting single ticket sales to customers in certain zip codes
This will probably really suck for those of us that live out of state and go to games when back in town visiting family
Well, shit, there go my plans for going up to Buffalo to see a home game.
‘might’
what they’re going to do is whatever they can to sell the most tickets.
Does that mean you’re going to lower the ticket price for those games then?
The ticket prices are artificially raised for specific teams that have this type of attendance. are sabers fans going to pay the same prices when they can wait 3 days and go for $100 less. Season ticket holders are still going to sell these seats.
So much for coming up from NYC to see a home game ever
Ok. Make those games cheaper. I never liked the tiered pricing and the point of that was to get more money on games where other fans come. Get rid of it then.
I hope not, my dad and I are planning to come out for the Bruins game in March.
This isn’t going to make a big difference when the majority are probably bought from StubHub. Unless they’re going to restrict reselling the season tickets then this is just for show.
Habs fan, who now lives in NY, but had Caps season tickets from 2005 – 2020…the Caps had the same problem. NYR, Habs, PIT, even Buffalo fans would outnumber Caps fans in the early Ovechkin era.
Caps did the same thing, block area codes, charge more for those tickets, etc etc. It didn’t change a thing. How it changed was putting a competitive winning product on the ice. Even then, in 2010 when the Caps played the Habs in the playoffs, game 7 was still 50/50.
The only way this will change is for the Sabres to continue winning. You’re doing great this year, so keep it up!! Good luck the rest of the way and Fuck Boston and Fuck Toronto!!
Great idea if implemented correctly. Should also punish season ticket holders who re-sell their tickets often.
I think they should just try to sell out every night. Maybe have a couple good years before stuff like this.
This is completely weak.
Remember when Sabres fans used to make fun of so-called “soft” hockey markets like Carolina for doing this? It’s total bullshit.
Fk it, I know I’m in the minority but more opposing fans just makes it more of a fired up atmosphere. If you don’t like it, then just win jfc
Good
I mean even in 06-07 and the following few seasons (really when Miller was here), we had seasons as a family then and that was when there was a waitlist, and people still sold habs and leafs tickets and the arena was still very much crowded with other team’s fans. maybe not as bas now, but it was very noticeable then too. they’ll need to do more than get better as a team. converting fans is going to be extremely difficult, but unless you cut off sales to canada you’re not fixing it and that’s not the right solution either without alienating the canadian sabres fans
This shit is weak; just keep winning and fans will pay for tickets.
I could understand doing this around 2005-2007 when they had a Cup contender and a season ticket waiting list, but doing this now is just lame.
Annoying. Grew up in Southern Ontario (Leafs territory) but have been a fan since birth. My late grandfather was a season ticket holder from Buffalo’s inaugural season!
Can’t get article to load but if they don’t include a lot of the area south of Toronto they are locking out a lot of Sabres fans they need, and if they do that’s also where the majority of Canadian team fans also come from. I doubt most are driving all the way from Montreal or Ottawa.
Maybe some sort of in-person only first sale could help but the key is to win and make fans want to go to those games instead of selling them and away fans to think twice to spend time traveling to watch their team lose. Plus, as few as they are, those games are fun to have some back and forth and I’ve yet to see opposing fans acting like assholes. Nobody was complaining when the Sabres were winning these games and sending the away fans packing.
Imagine being the laughing stock of the NHL for 15 straight years, being in the bottom 4th of the league in attendance, and then… in the midst of your first season where it looks like you *might* make the playoffs…you start restricting your ticket sales.
This is like the exact definition of the sub r/choosingbeggars.
How about you start winning, and hope you have sellouts for the 35 games at home.
Even in their best seasons, the arena would be 60/40 Sabres to leafs fans. It’s part of sports.
So were the new Caps, Canes & Preds?
It’s not going to help. It’s all resale
If we make the playoffs for the first time and I cant buy tickets cause I live in Niagara Canada I will actually lose it
I always found it lame when other teams would do this, so I don’t support it. When STHs number over 10,000 again it shouldn’t be such an issue, so just keep winning and build those numbers back… There’s always going to be some people who’ll take Toronto and Montreal fan’s money though. Why not, when selling 2-4 games can subsidize a huge chunk of your season tickets?
I hate everything about this. If fans want to sell their tickets fine. Restrictions on who can buy what tickets and who can wear what jerseys where are super lame. It’s been done by many teams and it’s always lame.
I’m a lifelong (since 1970) Sabres fan in SE Pennsylvania. Guess they don’t want our money
Our ownership (and any ownership really) would never do anything to prevent a sell out audience at a game.

As a habs fan who lives in Rochester… Sweet!
