The Rockets, with a 33-20 record, are not considered championship contenders according to Phil Jackson’s 40-20 rule

  1. When you have a coach who, when down 3, puts Amen on the court over Reed, you probably won’t win a championship anytime soon

  2. The first stretch of the game was the best offense I have ever seen. Then comes the crappy lineup, all momentum lost, back to ISO play. Then second half refs come to aid for Clippers and game over.

  3. Even if they got to 40 before 20, I don’t need the Zenmaster rule for this team.

I’ve been using the “my own eyeballs rule” since early in the seaaon to see we weren’t contenders.

Now that the trade deadline has passed and our primary ballhandlers would still be 3rd or 4th options on most other teams, everything else is irrelevant.

That fundamental flaw overrides everything else at this point.

If tonight was frustrating, imagine the turnover fest we’ll see during the intensity of playoff basketball against better teams and better coaches. Our best ballhandlers already look timid and shaky in regular season games against all levels of opponents.

Imagine a close game with our poor ballhandlers trying to battle nerves on top of lack of handles and the inability to consistently make simple passes.

An FVV type would at least provide some on ball composure and he wouldn’t even be enough. You need multiple in the current state of the league and at least one that is multi-dimensional, unlike FVV.

Being able to avoid bad turnovers will be paramount in the playoffs and we all know that will be impossible to do 4 games out of 7 one time, let alone multiple times.

Our Achilles Heel is not just any weakness. I can’t remember ever seeing a team so inept at basic dribbling and passing.

It’s like having a fancy car without a key to turn it on. You can’t even see its potential because you can’t even get it in gear lol

  4. Anyone who watches this team knew they didn’t need to lose 20 games until we came to the conclusion we aren’t contenders. Our own GM basically admitted this season is a wash

  5. The only reason we aren’t contenders is because the coach is so bad.

The talent is there. It’s just being misused horribly.

All the close losses to good teams and bad losses to bad teams beating us at our own style are proof that Udoka is getting bodied on the sidelines. These are the games where coaching makes a difference.

It’s making a negative difference for us.

Flip just 3 or 4 of those (MANY) unfortunate losses, and the Rockets are not only on track to be a contender, but the 2nd best team in the NBA.

  6. Ime is desperately trying to prove himself, after the Celtics won a ring without him. We are being sacrificed for his ego.

We shouldn’t have ran for the championship. 2-3 years are needed to develop our young roster.

Should’ve traded JG away and kept DB. We are rushing this too hard.

  7. I mean, they aren’t contenders. Their team identity is to maximize possessions. Without Adams that is not happening. Without maximizing possessions the offense is below average.

It will take a run of injury luck to our opponents to be considered contenders.

That said, we are still a clear playoff team (not play-in) despite key injuries. The team is probably still one key piece away from being a contender.

  8. no shit, Udoka is not utilizing the talent and 2 of our most important pieces are out for the season

  9. The only teams i see winning it are the thunder and spurs. The east team will make it but I don’t see a chance they will win either the pistons or celtics

  10. We are contenders in the fact that we will be in the playoffs but logically anyone can see we are not built to win unless we get a series of breaks and collapses by our opponents similar to this years Patriots.

  11. we could have been if FO made a move for a PG.

whatever tho FVV needs to get shipped to a tanking team next year he clearly don’t care about the rockets or else he’d agree on getting traded.

  12. This team with a healthy Vanvleet and Steven Adams wins it all this year. I’m not even a rockets fan and I believe that.
