  1. Took Meyers and Collins, but hopefully 3rd times the charm with Clingan. Just 21 years old and exerting his dominance on the game. Obviously, there are certain matchups he struggles in because of his size and speed. But if he develops a post game to punish teams going small, then it’s all over for the league. Can’t wait to keep watching him develop.

  2. Cling Kong with 23/18/7 and 3 blocks!

It struck me tonight that he didnt seem to get killed with the Jazz going small, and his size was actually an advantage. Big step in the right direction.

Now lets see our dudes show out for allstar!

  3. Donovan truly just puts up some nutty fucking statlines lmao. Shoutout to Jrue for the huge game as well though.

  4. Game notes (abridged, since life got busy and I was multitasking again)

    * Last game of Cissoko’s two-way contract. You have to imagine he gets converted though, right? He’s definitely earned it.

    * Anyone else think Blake Hinson is better than Javonte Cooke? I never understood that one.

    * Super lackadasical first half. No energy, no defense, just totally losing focus on effort plays – not a lot of boxing out, stagnant offense, etc.

    * When the Jazz cut the lead to 3, JG got a block leading to a three, and then got two layups. That was HUGE and they were able to keep the Jazz at arms length after that. went on a huge run to put the game out of reach after that.

    * Turnovers remain a huge problem for this team. Some of the live ball TOs they commit are just so dumb. It’s really the entire team, but Toumani threw a few really awful ones too (side note, he seems to not read the help to the help defender very well. If he sees a guy help off his man, he just throws it there and doesn’t see guys rotating to help the helper.

    * Much better third quarter where they locked in and built a bit of a cushion.

    * After a bit of a rough start by Jrue (missing a wide open layup and then immediately fouling a jump shooter) he really got it together. It’s fun to watch his old man game where he slow steps his way into the paint and pump fakes a billion times. Kinda reminiscent of Andre Miller in a way.

    * DC dominant on the offensive glass and in the paint on both ends. I also feel l like his passing is coming along slowly as well. Great game from him on a game where we needed it.

    * Scoot looked good getting downhill, getting FTs, etc. I liked the play where he bumped Collier off him, played off two feet, and drew a foul. However he threw some of the worst TOs ever (including two back to back that brought the Jazz back into the game in the fourth quarter).

    * Vit is better than I expected when putting the ball on the floor and driving. He also had a couple really ugly bricks from three but hopefully the shooting comes around. All in all solid games.

    * Caleb did Caleb things in the second half.

  5. I think Jazz Bear got a crush with the way he’s been teasing Brooke all game. Very playground shenanigans.

  6. Have to say, I’m still worried about Scoot’s handle after a few years. Rock hands are one of those ones that sometimes don’t go away. Like you have a nice touch or you don’t. Get him on some Steph Curry drills or something.

  7. Solid bounce back after last night, regardless of the opposition. Hope we can put a good run together post all star now that we seem to have some semblance of a healthy lineup. 8th place is definitely doable.

  8. This team needs to work on ball security so bad. That and shooting are the two things getting Dame back will help with.

  9. I dont know what happened at half but I am glad it did. Played so much better. Clingon looked dominant

  10. Can’t be happy about this one. Not like a bounce back. The Jazz was really trying to pay another 50k. Still 19 turnovers, still looked like we might lost this. I miss Scotts so much.

  11. This win will hold us over until we see DC, Young Handsome, Dame and Deni this weekend. Oh, and thank you Jason Benetti!

  12. I really appreciate that the guys clearly understood that they were not playing up to their standard at all in the first half and adjusted for a huge 2nd half. Obv there were some shaky points during that 2nd half, but they played with so much more intentionality and force, good stuff.

  13. To me, it was nice to see the team put it away in the end. They were up big, and kinda looked like they were trying to ride out the rest of the game. Nope! You could tell they weren’t gonna lose, put the starters back in, ball out, win. Give em credit for that.

  14. I’ve waited my whole life as a Blazer fan for a nasty center like DC. I can’t wait to see how much better he can be.

  15. As Lamar reminded us during the game, can’t have losses against bad teams pile up.

The loss to the Wizards is the reason that we’re not .500 at the all-star break.

    Oopsies.

  16. I thought the broadcast said Clingan had 19 pts and 19 reb at one point. Guess it was a mistake but oh well. I wanted him to get that 20 and 20 so bad. 7 ast and 3 blocks as well what a game. He still has a ton of room to grow as a finisher and passer too. Love this guy

  17. A win is a win! Great bounce back at the 3rd quarter and late in the game. Monster game from DC.

Controversial opinion – I actually thought the Blazers opening minutes were solid and had good energies.
I think the Yang minutes at the first quarter completely shifted the energy and momentum for both teams. Suddenly, the Jazz felt way more comfortable going to the rim, the 3’s started to go in, and they played with much more energy and intensity. The Blazers, on the other hand, looked absolutely defeated and shut down. If we we’re facing a decent team – the first half would be a blowout. I’m not scapegoating Yang, but man his minutes were so rough, I could feel the energy being sucked out. I really really (really!) hope he’ll get his shit together and turn up better next season.

Still, it takes character to hang in there and come out strong in the 2nd half – shout out for the Blazers for that!
