Marc Stein: The Lakers’ Luka Dončić is indeed on course to play for a short stint in Sunday’s All-Star Game after a strong pregame workout Thursday, league sources tell @TheSteinLine.

  1. I’m sure there’s going to be people here upset he didn’t play yesterday, but it’s been pretty clear since day 1 of Luka being in the NBA that he’s very much for the fans. He’s probably going to play a couple minutes just for that reason. We didn’t need him against the Mavs, so it’s another day of rest and we’re off for a whole week. All this means is he should be back post ASB, which means Austin, Luka and Bron all playing. Fingers crossed for health for the stretch run here.

  2. Thought you couldn’t play the all star game if your injured and don’t play the game before.

  3. People have to remember that this Luka’s first All-Star appearance as top vote getter in the League. I bet that means a lot to him.

  4. Y’all are so weird. He got the extra rest last night and it was a 20 point blowout because the Mavs suck but if he needed to play he could have.

Mark also said his pregame workout was one of hardest he’s ever seen Luka do. The ASG is an exhibition show off game. It’s not playing 30 min and trying to drop 50.

  5. While I understand that people want him to not exert himself at the ASG, it makes sense that he would play in this particular edition. He actually had the most fan votes in the whole league. That’s a huge deal when you are up against Curry and LBJ and Jokic etc. And he was 2 on the media list. It would be a disservice to the millions who voted to see him play if he refused to play even when healthy.

And I don’t think he’ll put much effort into it anyway. I’m sure his team knows his limits.

Don’t know why people get so overly critical of the ASG or about players not taking it seriously and shit. They already play hard and to win for 82 games plus playoffs. This is supposed to be chill. I’d rather see players having fun and being happy than being over-competitive and hurting themselves.

  6. Well the Lakers made him the top in the overall votes, of course he feels compelled to play. Jokic might get jealous and could be planning an early exit excuse too. Lmao But if they get to choose these two would rather enjoy themselves in the beach with their horse.

  7. I said this yesterday in a comment, but Mcten on ESPN yesterday made it sound like Luka really wanted to play and was honored he was the player with the most votes.

It will be for limited minutes, but I think it’s a good thing he cares about his fans.

There’s a big difference in playing in a real game vs playing a couple of minutes in an all star game lol

  8. Honestly if he participated in the pregame workout on Thursday versus Dallas, then he’s likely fine to play in the All-Star game. The All-Star game is more chill and less strenuous than the pregame workout he did. I think the team wanted to keep him out of the Dallas game for precaution.

  9. No other injured star is doing this. Of course it’s our player who has to save this meaningless boring event

  10. There’s probably a ton of pressure from the league on Luka to play for a short stint. ASG on life support. Especially it being in LA. I’m sure Luka prefers to rest
