Also per Heyman:
> Gallen gets about $22M, the QO value
Zack Littell, save us
Lucas Golito, YOU are a San Diego Padre 😎
Randy Vasquez is going to have 2 runs better era than Gallen
Funniest part is that this is the same qualifying offer he denied back in December
Kinda surprised he didn’t take the chance at a multi year deal, or go somewhere with better pitching development to get back into shape (here for instance). Dude just really likes Arizona I guess.
Are we going to do anything at this point
Gallen-tines day!
4th best team in NL West at this point…now whether you think that is AZ or SD depends on if you believe in the bookies or “Fangraphs projections” more
With deferred money he actually got less than the QO. Â He overstimulated his value.
Â
Thought he did seem to want to go back to the dbacks.Â
I’m a life-long, die-hard Padres and A’s fan. Over all of those years, it’s usually pretty easy to know when it’s a contending year vs when it’s not, although sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised.
In my 42 years of fandom though I can’t say I’ve seen a contending or otherwise well-built team with a rotation this thin. I love the talent we have in the top 3, but only Pivetta is coming off a full healthy season. The drop off after those 3 is so sharp and the depth is so shallow that if we don’t get lottery tickets like Mackenzie to hit, things might get ugly quick.
We need some moves made on the rotation and it’s getting pretty late. We can’t do to the rotation what we did to LF/C last year and hope to make the playoffs.
Fuck…
No idea why people wanted him so bad. Cost a lot and we have to give up draft picks. Was never a real option.

Another year of doing the minimum
