Just as long as it doesn’t start until 2027 I really don’t care
Get rid of the lottery and protected draft picks. If they’re concerned about teams consistently tanking, then maybe have a rule that teams can’t have a top three pick two years in a row.
Start it in 2027 they aren’t going to do it this year. There is a process for this that takes time.
I’ve just accepted that the NBA is a postseason product. There are simply too many games for the regular season to be consistently interesting until the end of the year.
Just in time for us to end the current tank era.
Flattening the draft lottery odds completely for the non playoff teams seems like the obvious solution
Jus take away the ability for teams to protect their picks when they trade and like half of the issue is solved
Limits on top 5s should be helpful tbh. If you’re top 5 one year you’re disqualified from it for at least 2 years.
Have the play off and in teams pick based off of record… have the rest of the league picks be completely random. One ping pong ball per team and let luck decide 🤷🏽♂️
But it was fine in 2016 and 17 when the lakers got 2 2nd picks in a row right with a 17 and 26 win season
It’s annoying that they do it when we tank, but really this is a positive for us since we shouldn’t be full on tanking next year
Not going to affect this season, so Wizards fans are good.
Here’s how you stop tanking:
1) Remove trade pick protections
2) Change the lottery to only include the bottom 7 teams
3) Hit teams in the bottom 7 with progressively reduced revenue sharing
These last couple weeks have made me so sick of the talk about tanking.
Wizards are in this position because of a young core coming together after moving off of a sequence of disastrous contracts given to Wall and Beal. As much as I love them for the late 2010’s, the Wizards would arguably be just as bad if they had stayed over the years.
The Pacers are in this situation because their season was doomed 7 minutes into game 7 of the Finals when Haliburton, who has clearly been shown this year, the engine that drives that team was lost for the next years. Compound that with an incredibly bad run of injuries to start the year.
And I promise you that no one on r/nba who is going to shit on the Wizards and Pacers next week when they play the back to back is actually going to be watching those games.
This is good timing for us since we’re ending the tank hopefully
Hornets fan here. I feel like one thing is missed above all here, the lottery and therefore tanking is a completely luck based thing. You know who isn’t tanking anymore? The teams who get awarded the number one pick (pistons, wolves, spurs, mavs, etc…. Sorry pels this unfortunately doesn’t include you). If the NBA removes one of the only ways small market teams can get high end talent it’s going to exacerbate the problem not fix it.
They should have never flattened the lottery odds. Go back to the old system and limit how many times you get the top pick.
Add a second division and do promotion and relegation. That way games between bottom teams have stakes as well
Easiest fix? Fixed rank draft. Bottom team gets #1 pick 2nd worst team gets #2. Yes you will still have tanking but it won’t go beyond a season and these teams stuck doing it for years and years won’t have to anymore. Tanking isn’t an issue in the NFL because it only takes one year in the bottom 3 to get a transformational talent.
I will never understand why this such a big issue. There are going to be dog shit teams in the league every year. Why does it matter how they go about being dog shit?
What’s the noble way to be a bottom 5 team?
Lol they only say this stuff when the Wizards are up for a high pick. Even got other teams complaining we are trading for stars.
but yeah let’s reward the Mavericks for a boneheaded midseason trade with the #1 pick fuck off
NBA is more corrupt than the NFL. And they don’t even try to hide it.
Every suggestion in here makes the worst teams worse. What is more important, parity or teams trying in meaningless games? If parity is less important, may as well just contract.
But i thought Silver worked for the owners 🙄
As a Wizards fan Im more interested in this team then the Beal lead playin teams. And this is ultimately what the leauge is striving for.
Play in teams should be eliminated from the lottery, now it becomes a 10 team lottery. Then only do a lottery for the first pick, maybe the first and second picks. Reverse order of records from there. Remove Pick protections also
This is very strong evidence that the lottery is NOT collectively rigged by the owners as is repeatedly claimed.
Why would Ryan Smith be doing this, risking a half million dollar fine, and publicly complaining afterwards if he knew none of it mattered because the draft is fixed?
