Most players talk trash to get in your head. Larry talked trash because he was a pragmatist. Why waste time wondering how he’d score when he could just point to the spot on the floor, tell you the play, and then execute it with 100% efficiency?

Honestly, watching these clips makes our current "spacing" and "analytics" look like finger painting. Larry didn't need "hero ball" because he was the hero, the narrator, and the guy selling programs in the lobby all at once.

I’m going to go pour a glass of Redbreast and watch this on loop until I forget that the 3-point line even exists for anyone else

Petition to replace the Bald Eagle with No. 33, because the Eagle has never once shot 47% from deep while playing left-handed just to feel something.

  1. The same way NBA fans overrate the physicality and effort of bygone NBA eras, I think we underrate how saucy and skilled some older players wrre

  2. An absolute master with a ball. You could watch a 1,00 Celtic games and in the 1001 game he would show you something new.

  3. When you look at so many players like Jokić and his passing, the crazy no-looks from LBJ and others, and the drunken master style Bird, not only is the prototype, but he’s the master. Could you imagine him in his prime with Twitter and YouTube lol he’s a legend.

  4. The passing was better than the scoring. The effort that went into being the small forward and still rebounding was more important than the clutch game winners that came up less frequently.

  5. For what it’s worth, Bird didn’t shoot any threes left-handed in that game. It was only the shots in and around the paint.

  6. Larry Bird mastered the game of basketball. Nobody has played it better since. Others like LeBron and Jokic have equalled him, but you literally cannot play the game better than he played it from 1980-1988.
