Astros: Yordan Alvarez Pushes Back? LF vs DH Debate Heats Up
Houston Astros’ Yordan Alvarez challenges the offseason debate—will he be the team’s primary designated hitter, or does his passion for playing left field tip the scales? Joe Espada clarifies Alvarez’s role, opening the door for strategic lineup rotations as the roster battles a tight logjam. Is Alvarez’s health and versatility the Astros’ secret weapon, or will concerns over his knees push him toward DH duty?
Hosts Eric Huysman and Brett Chancey highlight Lance McCullers Jr.’s candid outlook on his potential final season in Houston, raising questions about his future and the Astros’ pitching depth. The episode spotlights Cavan Biggio’s arrival, the infield competition, and how defensive metrics impact lineup decisions. Key conversations center on roster flexibility, spring training intrigue, and the evolving landscape as Houston eyes another playoff run. Can the Astros maximize their talent and keep their stars engaged on the field?

He needs to play LF. Let him earn his money for Godsake! I mean, let Paredes play 1st and Christian Walker DH.
Yordan's got a good arm, the little few plays he had the chance there he was lethal getting people out. Indeed he probaby has the best highlights getting people out at home and 2nd base on that team in the last years in the few games he was playing there.
Thanks for being realistic Brett. Lance is getting cut, he can't get anybody out.
Walker has played LF in the past. A total of 90 games. Keep Paredes on the team!
He has had his knees operated on but not replaced!!!
I guess if Espada and Brown want to keep their jobs Yordan will be playing more than he has in years past. Let's win the season Stros.
So let's stop talking about trading Isaac Paredes. If anyone goes down and you traded him away for whatever then you're screwed. Closest Alvarez's in left field Altuve and Paredes can switch back and forth between DH and second base or something are you going to give Carlos Correa a day off from 3rd and put him over there and have him DH what we have right now is not a log Jam it's a plethora of options if you want to win a World Series you're going to need those options
You don’t protect your body by using it less. This is nonsense. Put him out in left field. He hits better and he has the respect of base runners. Let him play.
Trying to hide people away from injury just hasn't worked. They will either get injured or they won't. Play your best guys as long as you are able.
If they are going to keep Paredes Than Yordan and Possibly Walker will have to play some Left Field; especially if all the Bats are hitting strong. Altuve was decent at tracking flay balls in Left but His arm is just to weak to keep runners from advancing so him playing 2B and DH are his only real options. Parades will be moved around from my point of view 1B,2B,3B, and DH. he might set some type of record for starts at 4 different positions this year?
The opening day starting roster will Yainer as Catcher, Walker 1B, Altuve 2B, Correa 3B, Penna SS, Yordan LF, Myers CF, Cam Smith RF and Paredes DH.
Let Yordan Alvarez play LF. He will be more engaged with the team instead of being a disgruntled player.
None of the infielders want to DH. Yordan hurt his ankle crossing home plate. Have you ever ran across home plate in spikes? It's slippery. I don't count that injury on his giant body. My 2 cents.
Yordan doesnt need to run in left, he can just jog, especially in home games. Im fine sacrificing a base hit than him going too hard, plus he wants to play left so if he gets injured jogging in left then so be it, hes proven to be just as injury prone being DH on the bench.
Another year of Diaz never throwing anyone out.
