I think you are reading too much into it. MacKinnon had two huge mistakes, you could see him disassociating after the loss. He probably meant that as a dig at himself.

It wasn’t Binningtons fault. He made some great saves. The Canadian team just didn’t finish. It happens sometimes. But it was not the goalies fault.
If you look at the stats, and the stats alone you’d have thought that Canada won. The expected goals for Canada was like 5+ and USA was 2.5. That’s what he is saying.
And that’s why they play the game!
The US played one step ahead the entire game. Binner was great, the team just played a little slow
Not at all. He believes his team was the batter team. Statistically they were significantly better in almost every category aside from the most important one.
Did you watch the game at all? Canada had more chances and looked the better team. That’s all he’s saying. Doesn’t matter in the end cause they lost.

Makar and Toews got dog walked on the 1st goal. Mackinnon wide open net miss. And then Makar made the final failed pinch in OT that gave the US a 3 on 1.

MacKinnon is a smart fucking hockey player. He is clearly far more pissed at himself than anything else.
Binnington played an insane game. Hellebyuck was just a brick wall and Team Canada shat the bed in 3-on-3 with turnovers and rushes.
Binner was great. Canada WOULDNT HAVE EVEN BEEN IN A MEDAL GAME WITHOUT HIM ROBBING THE CHECHS. Yet Canada and stupid people will clown him. He had 3 great saves on that last PP. A monster glove save in OT.
Toews was brutal, McKinnon with an iconic whiff. Makar was pretty bad defensively but could have been how terrible Toews was too. Makar did score, but tough Avs showing overall. Hope they crumble now
