I personally agree with this. Kawhi is by far the best player to ever play for the Clippers, but he doesn’t exactly exude being a Clipper. He doesn’t really talk, wasn’t drafted by us. He seems just like a super high level mercenary.
Blake on the other hand was drafted by the team, really changed their fortune and was the reason why CP wanted to come and create Lob City. He was on talk shows, commercials, his legacy will always be tied to this team. He didn’t go as far as Kawhi in terms of the playoffs, but I just think he embraced and represented the franchise more than Kawhi.

Kawhi has been here for a while. If he can make some magic happen with a deep playoff run before his next stop or retires, kinda muddies that up I feel
Didn’t they both make it to the second round as clippers? kawhi was out for the conference finals run
I’ve loved seeing him ball out this year and he’s honestly always showed up when he’s been healthy. After I saw him play on one leg in the 2024 playoffs it was clear to me he actually did care.
Same with the Raps. Kawhi is the greatest player to be a Raptor / Clipper. But his lack of games played makes it hard for him to be the greatest Raptor / Clipper.
I nominate Chris Kaman.
Lob City clips changed the perception. It was beautiful and because of it I’ll always have a place in my heart for Ralph Lawler. I just wish they didn’t do Blake dirty because his peak was literally carrying Detroit by himself
It’s obviously Ralph Lawler followed by Keith Closs. JK I’d go with Elton Brand
Blake is the one that got me started loving clippers with all the massive dunks!
I agree with that but the player who got us the farthest was Paul George! BG is the greatest Clipper ever! He should totally be a HOF! He’s the reason the clippers sold for 2 Billon!
Kawhi is the only star to ever choose the clippers. CP3 was traded, Blake was drafted, George was traded, harden just wanted to be traded to us because we said we would pay him and he didn’t choose that during his prime. Kawhi chose to spend his prime with the clippers. When the lakers did everything to get him. I get that other players talk more openly about their appreciation for the organization and other guys went further (George), but kawhi put us in position to go to the WCF with that crazy game 6 vs Dallas in round 1 and his games 3 and 4 vs Utah. He also will likely go into the hall of fame as a clipper which is crazy
I agree with this.
Agree. It’s getting close for me. I loved watching Blake and I love watching Kawhi. Kawhi still working to fix the hole he put us in with the SGA trade though.
Blake Griffin No Question. #LobCity #LobCityStars
Without Blake, this team is in Seattle. He’s not the best player to wear a Clipper uniform, and there’ll be players with longer and more decorated careers with the team, but no one will ever have the singular impact like he did. No CP3 without him, no Lob City, etc.
That all being said, Kawhi deserves recognition for being one of the greatest players to ever be a Clipper, but also for being the one guy who chose the team. If Blake saved the team, Kawhi is the one who cemented it’s new chapter.
I moved here in 2010 and have had the privilege of meeting Blake, CP3, DJ, Paul Pierce and many others on the team. I initially liked the Clippers because I could afford to go their games. I would go to the Clippers games whenever the Bulls were in town because I wanted to see D. Rose. I went to a game in his MVP season where him and Blake put on a show. At the time the Clippers weren’t there yet but they were exciting. They still had Baron Davis and what was funny was that Vinny Del Negro was coaching them after he was the coach of the Bulls. Long story short, by the time Doc got there they were an exciting team and built a culture that the Clippers were not known for.
Kawhi is the best Clipper in my opinion. Blake and CP3 put them on the map, but Kawhi has been arguably one of the top players in the league, when healthy. They were arguably best at their positions, but never seen as the top 3-5 players in the league. Maybe CP3 was, but never Blake.
So much Danny Manning erasure 😛😛😛
