The amount of “fans” calling us a joke of a franchise because we relegated our 19 year old prospect is incredible. He’s not going to be ready automatically and take us to 7 World Series, things take time to develop.

The list of 19 years olds who’ve made opening day rosters is Griffey Jr and Mickey Mantle. That’s it.
So him not being here is not a problem at all.

Should throw him up anyways to get the trade train going, he ain’t wasting his career in Shittsburgh just like Skenes isn’t.
im personally in the “be a little disappointed, but not throw a fit” camp. I will point out a few arguments against your logic. up to you if it moves you or not.
1. Who says development cannot occur at the major league level? Why would you be able to develop in AAA and not MLB?
2. Instead of getting Triolo 3b and Griffin SS, we will be getting Triolo SS and Gonzales/Yorke 3b. This would all be one thing if they got some sort of real SS or 3b this offseason. But the alternative to griffin is Yorke and Gonzales. Theyre both pretty bad. this is a win now year. even if for some reason you predicted that they’d slightly out-hit Griffin this year (idk why you would, as theyre both bad hitters so far), Griffin is the clear clear clear defensive advantage. If they had signed even just moncada this offseason, i’d be a lot more empathetic toward their decision. but we are talking about *Nick Yorke and Nick Gonzales.*
3. nobody is saying that Griffin means instant world series. However the pirates are in a situation where every single extra win they can cram onto the roster is huge. theyre in the thick of the playoff glut. every win counts. I imagine most fans think that Griffin gets the team more wins than Gonzales. And therefore a higher odds of making the playoffs with Griffin. Nobody is saying anything about something being a sure world series.
I mean if you personally think that Nick Yorke and Nick Gonzales will outplay Griffin, then I can understand why you would be okay with the decision. I would just disagree with that projection that they will outplay him.
Cherington literally told the media at some point that he wanted to add a 3b or SS but didnt. had they done that, i would not be typing up this post.
You do realize you are whining about people whining on the internet.
I mean the problem isn’t “Konnor Griffin isn’t ready” the problem is they didn’t do anything to have a backup plan if he wasn’t.
And I don’t want to hear “they tried to get Suarez and Okamoto” because what they actually got was nothing. They have an entire left side of the infield now that is a clear Bottom 5 in the sport.
This should have always been the plan. However, that plan should have included a real 3B or SS on the big league roster.
I’m annoyed because we’ll be running out two replacement level players at a position neither has played instead of starting a 19 year old. As always, it’s a management issue.
Tbh it could have went either way. Had Konnor not whiffed so much in spring he makes team imo. He will be fine and will show quickly in Indy why he should be here.

The Pirates *are* a joke of a franchise, though.
