Honestly good for him, he hit amazingly well in spring training for the Rangers and earned the spot.
That said, he still didn’t make sense for the Pirates to bring back.

Let people be happy for him instead of being completely negative about it. He was a lot of people’s favorite Pirate ever. I’m thrilled to see that he earned his way on their roster and didn’t end up going out in a shitty way.
The big difference I never see anyone mention is that if Cutch goes out and hits .178 through the end of April Texas can just say oh well worth a try. But if Pittsburgh had signed him they’d have been handcuffed to him for the year or the fan base would have thrown a fit just like they did when he signed in Texas.
Cutch can still play. He wasn’t bad last year.
I’m fine with not signing him, but gotta respect the desire to keep it going while he still can. Wishing him the best.

Cutch has 8 hits in ST, I get it.
Cutch could have a resurgence, I get it.
Cutch could shit the bed.
Ozuna could shit the bed.
Cutch could hit better because hes in a hitter friendly park half the year. Ozuna could have worse numbers because he isn’t.
Theres a million ways this could go, but I promise you one thing. Cutch hasnt been good 8 years, and he was never ‘good’ in his 2nd stint with us. Average to replacement level.
That doesn’t mean I hate cutch, I don’t. He’s the best pirate I’ve seen by a pretty wide margin. Doesn’t mean I need to have a pity party for him, or track his every at bat.
I know this is going to get twisted and ran with but here goes.
I have no doubt that cutch was a great leader and presence in the locker room. He was the backbone of this team the last time we touched October baseball. I am not questioning his abilities as a leader, or as a teammate. But Cutch not being in that locker room creates even more room for Paul Skenes to take over as the leader of this team. He already was, but now he’s at the helm and that is something that is going to work wonder for this team.
