2026 Opening Day Lineup vs Pirates

  1. Baty will be playing 4 positions this year: third, second, first, and dh. So for opening day it makes sense to stick him at dh

  2. Alright, people, LFGM! So happy baseball is back, and I can bitch and moan on here all season.

  3. I understand Polanco was signed to play 1st and that’s why he’s getting the start there. I simply do not agree that that’s the best baseball decision. All else equal, what do you think gives us the better chance to win any given game: Polanco at 1st and Baty at DH, or Baty at 1st and Polanco DH? IMO, Baty’s glove is better (and more versatile, which is also forfeited playing him in the DH slot).

  4. I’m glad Baty is getting ABs but it’s funny that he’s probably better (at this point) than Bichette at 3rd and Polanco at 1st but DHing

  5. IMHO this lineup is better, deeper, and more consistent than any lineup the last few years. Maybe since the 06 run.

Robert, Benge, and Alvy are the wildcards that could take it from #5-6 in the league to easily #2 and 2 of the 3 players have had major success already within the last few years.

That said we got the best pitcher in baseball going against them today so yeah

  6. How are so many people upset about Baty at DH? Do you prefer him on the bench? Whose place is he taking on the field?

Alvarez hitting 9th isn’t a slight on Alvarez. It’s a sign that our lineup is so deep our 9 hitter could be in the top half of 15 other lineups.

Polanco and Bichette could set career highs in RBIs hitting behind Lindor and Soto.

  7. I would switch Robert and Alvarez to have speed at the bottom of the lineup but overall I’m happy with this

  8. Excited to see Robert Jr……Look at Andrew Vaughn, hopefully getting him off that horrendous team is all he needed to give him new life.

  9. So we’re just going to throw capitalization out the window?

If there’s one thing this team needs to do, it’s capitalize. So let’s not make this a theme starting on opening day.

I’m gonna let it slide, but from now on I want to see capitalization where it’s needed.

    Go Mets

  10. Robert Jr had 2 lackluster seasons in a row, Polanco is coming off a career year but other than that he’s generally up and down, Semien is a 35yr old second baseman who’s on the downside of his career hitting wise. Benge is an unknown, Baty has shown flashes but so did Vientos, Alvy got injury problems. I think we gotta pump the breaks before we start calling this the best lineup we’ve seen in yrs… literally the front of our lineup last year was great, we had 0 pitching.

  11. Some of you freaking about Bo at 3B need to take a deep breath. He is going to be more than fine there. HIs problems at SS were not catching the ball but range. Once he gets comfortable he will be solid. Also would rather leave Baty for 1B as that seems to be a place he will get a lot of time. By the end of the year I predict that ends up our best defensive infield by the numbers as Baty becoming a legit lefty 1B is going to be a thing. He is a great athlete.

I understand what they are doing with bottom of lineup as it turns over, might swap 8/9 to give Benge better protection with Lindor/Soto behind him but not a big thing.

  12. I’d probably bat Semien 5th, Alvy 7th, and Robert 9th, with the idea being that Alvy moves up to 5th as the season goes on and he settles in.

    But this works too.

  13. Feels very strange to have Baty at DH when he’s one of our best defenders, but I suspect this is more of a nod to the new guys coming in with the promise of playing those positions than anything. Bo is the opening day 3B, Polanco is the opening day 1B — that doesn’t mean that they will be the guy spending the most time at their respective position as we move into the season.

  14. I like this but my 7-8-9 would probably be alvarez-semien-benge. I like Benge as 9. Takes some pressure off and he has good tools to be a second leadoff type guy in front of the big guys. But Mendy’s lineup preserves alternating handedness and 7-8-9 doesn’t matter much anyway.

  15. We gotta stop with this lowercase aesthetic it’s driving me nuts. Something I’ve hated about the Cohen takeover has been the constant attempts to market the team to a new team audience and likewise everything has to be hip and trendy but it usually just comes off as tacky and a step or two behind the times (lowercase aesthetic is on the way out fwiw). I also dislike how the in-game experience has increasingly prioritized non-baseball over the drama in the game… it’s an overwhelming sensory experience and this comes from someone who if they had it there way would go to at least 20 games a year… still happy with a lot of cohen’s other decisions (stearns, winning)… but this one sums up what ive disliked about his leadership.

    anyways LFGM lineup looks great

  16. We don’t have strong evidence yet, but I suspect Baty will be a better first baseman than Polanco. It feels odd to play a guy who’s a plus defender at third, who probably will be at first as well, at DH instead of a guy who only has been poor defensively in recent memory. It’s fine on opening day, but Polonco shouldn’t have that kind of authority over lineup. He should DH

  17. This is plain giving Polanco and Bichette time at their positions. Be patient. They’ll make mistakes early. They’ll be fine

  18. I haven’t been paying enough attention cause I had no idea Lindy would be ready for opening day. LFGM

  19. Not a fan of the Baty plan , I hate politics in real life , hate it in the office and hate it in sports. Polanco or Bichette should be the DH not Baty. Best scenario would actually be Baty at 3rd , and Bichette or Polanco at 1st with the other DH. Good news is that Polanco and Baty are both former SS they should be fine defensively.
