  1. I’ve only had Okamoto for one game. But if anything were to happen to Okamoto, I would everybody in this room and then myself.

  2. Gausman, Gimenez, Okamoto. Wow.

We’re now only half a game back of the Yankees! Now we go.

  3. WE FUCKING WIN

Also some of you guys are not built for a 162 game season lol

  4. Okamoto looks like he’s been in this league for years. This guy will be huge for us!

  5. Buck said it a few years ago. You can’t win ’em all if you don’t win the first one. That’s how you set the tone for the season, boys

  6. It was my 8th straight home opener. And one of the best finish. Here are my thoughts:
    – Awesome pre-game ceremony. Coming off such a successful season combined with the 50th anniversary, the opening day ceremony was my favourite yet.
    – Gausman striking out the side in the top of the first was a great start. His catch on the come backer in the second was great. Showed great command throughout 6 innings of 1-hit ball with 11 strikeouts on 83 pitches.
    – Bullpen was typical. Varland started wild but found the strike zone. Super excited to see what Tyler Rogers will do this season after a strong debut. And Hoffman starting out the season in his usual form with giving up the game tying home run in the same inning where he strikes out 4 (Hoffman has a crazy 36.0 K/9).
    – Vladdy working an 0-2 count for a walk in his first at-bat (while also getting his bat caught in the backstop netting) showed continued great plate discipline. He followed it up with the Biue Jays first hit of the season.
    – Gimenez continues to be an Opening Day beast. Blue Jays had the best bottom of the order batting last season and they were the spark again tonight.
    – Great fielding from Gimenez in the third, from Okamoto and Vladdy in the fourth, and from Okamoto in the sixth.
    – Loved seeing ABS in action live – especially with the call going Hoffman and the Jays way in the top of the 9th.
Now time to drive back to Ottawa.

  7. Just as everyone expected, 3 RBI night and walkoff hit from our star Latin American infielder, Andres Gimenez

  8. Day 1: Doomers in shambles after a wrong-headed early appearance.

It’s a good day to be a blue Jays fan

  9. I think it’s kind of insane how the live game thread has over 7000 freaking comments holy crap….

  10. I unironically think we win the World Series if Gimenez and Varsho swapped places in the order.

He’s got a such a good approach with RISP. Drove in all three runs this game.

My World Champion. Glory to Venezuela 🇻🇪🇻🇪

  11. Gimenez with the walk off

    Okamoto is a stud

    Gas man still got it

Clement just continues to hit no matter what

    We’re so fucking back

  12. Gausman was lights out, no run support, Hoffman gives a homer in the 9th, and the bottom of the order power of friendship walks it off for the win…

    JAYS BASEBALL IS TRULY BACK

  13. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THAT, YOU DON’T LIKE BLUE JAYS BASEBALL.

    – What a debut for Okamoto. Got his lunch handed to him in his first AB and then completely adjusted. Great AB to force a walk and then two of the most Blue Jays looking hits you’ll ever see.

    – Gausman was GAS. Wouldn’t know its his first ever opening day start.

    – I’m not as doomerish as some with Hoffman but like…you could haven’t waited one game to blow a save, Jeff? lol Really man?

Gotta say, it’s a nice feeling to watch that bottom of the 9th and go “eh, they’ll figure it out” totally realizing that they’re still probably going to win.

    – Hoffman aside, i really like the deployment of Varland/Rogers to get to the 9th. Potentially gross combo going forward.
