Put him on a short IL stint then have him rehab in AAA. His fastball is not good enough right now
Just had to throw a game away to know what we already all knew
Not like he threw a few extra pitches after he got hit in the ankle with a batted ball
It really wouldn’t have been the worse thing in the world if Estevez simply started the season on the IL, rehabbed and came back early/mid April. Don’t know why that wasn’t the call. Everyone with eyes can see Carlos isn’t right. If he ends up going down soon, call up Cruz since they want to stretch Avila out in AAA. Everyone could just get slotted down in the meantime. Schreiber/Cruz 7th, Strahm 8th, Erceg for the 9th.
This is legitimately insane
This is progress in a way. A year ago they would wait til they’re 6 games under 500 before realizing this.
You know I’ll take that. Prior management made decisions based off emotions and Q has shown he will make decisions that are best for the team.
At least it’s a lesson learned quickly. Two losses is hardly devastating. Especially on the road against a team that will probably be significantly improved over last year
Gotta hand it to Q he didn’t waste any time saying this guy ain’t gonna be our closer
People in here are pissed but this kinda the best outcome. Nobody that I can recall has ever passed over their anointed closer in the first save opportunity of the year, even if they looked like ass all spring. It’s probably very rare to say immediately after a first-appearance meltdown that your closer won’t pitch in meaningful situations until he proves he’s got it back. This is not Ned Yost old-school baseball.
He’s toast and I can’t believe they thought he would work out again after what we saw towards the end of the season last year.
AAA and to never be seen again. Hopefully
Bring up Cruz or Avila. Obvious decision.
Funny…when I was a boy, Estévez jogging out of the bullpen and stepping on the mound used to make me feel so safe.
