[Dugar] Mike Macdonald on Riq Woolen: “We didn’t ‘let him go’ […] He’s a great player. Just can’t afford him.”

  1. Mike wouldn’t trash talk a player after they left. Riq’s a good kid. He’s just a bonehead sometimes.

  2. He’s on a 1 year deal. Curious if he’d give the Seahawks the same. If so, I would’ve jumped on that since we still have good cap space but have to be wary of not eating too much into future seasons.

  3. That’s our coach. Honest and to the point. John had to break the bank on JSN and Spoon. We all would love to have Riq back at the right price given his abilities, and let’s say, eccentricities.

  4. One year up to 15m still surprises me. I think he’s gonna play real well this year and get a fat bag.

But with Spoon coming up and eventually Byron Murphy, it just didn’t seem like we could pay everyone.

  5. While in his head he remembers telling the ref, you dont have to tell me, i know it was 27.

  6. Do we think we’ll find a better use for the remaining 33M in 2026 cap space? (Earnest question, not pointed)

  7. Translation: He’s a good kid, great athlete but has on field issues that “we can’t afford” the penalties. So now he’s the Eagles problem child (and hopefully he can mature into an even greater NFL player he has the potential to be … just not with the Seahawks while the NFCWest is ultra-competitive and stupid nonsensical penalties could cost Championships and Super Bowls!!)

That the team and defense could work it out, shake it off and reunite as a solid unit again to go on to WIN the Championship is a testament to McDonald’s coaching ability. Notice he didn’t chew Riq’s ass out on the field …. he left it up to Riq’s teammates to set it straight and settle the matter. He undoubtedly had a little private talk with Woolen later.

On the flip side. Metcalf is still doing stupid DK boners with the Steelers. Seattle doesn’t need the headaches.

McDonald is a great coach and an all around great person. We’re so fortunate to have him. Can’t wait to see what the Seahawks look like come the regular season.

  8. Everyone knows they let him walk but it serves no good purpose to do anything other than give a positive reflection on the guy.

  9. Mike talks like a great manager of people. It makes me feel so good to know a man like this is coaching the team.

Like Momma said, if you can’t say anything nice, just don’t say anything at all.

Leadership behavior like this is why players will want to come and stay with the Seahawks.

  10. No loss, Mike. ‘lesson you wanna lose the Super Bowl. He can live in “great but not good” land with DK “gown-ass man with a binky” Metcalf

  11. It’s a win win. If he ends up sucking and gets booed out of Philly, it’s fine. If he gets his head on straight, we have money for guys who already have their heads on straight.

    We’re fine.
