Shorthanded Detroit Pistons Show UNREAL Grit Pushing Oklahoma City Thunder to the Brink

Detroit Pistons push the Oklahoma City Thunder to the brink—do moral victories matter for a playoff-bound squad missing key stars?

Host Ku Khahil spotlights the short-handed Pistons’ gritty overtime battle, dissecting standout performances from Paul Reed, Kevin Huerter, and Ausar Thompson. Key discussions focus on costly turnovers, free-throw woes, coaching decisions, and Detroit’s resilient defense, which kept MVP-caliber Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in check while dominating the glass. The episode also questions national analysts who rank the 54-win Pistons as playoff underdogs, challenging doubters with stats and recaps of Detroit’s wins over NBA elites like the Celtics and Nuggets.

Can Kevin Huerter’s recent play force a rotation shakeup when the Pistons are back to full strength? Tune in for in-depth analysis on Detroit’s depth, why they deserve respect in the playoff picture, and how this performance shapes expectations for the rest of the season.

  1. SGA is a JOKE. Hes a creation of the NBA marketing machine. How can you forearm shiver the defender on EVERY drive to the basket and get call after call after call ON THE DEFENDER??? Its pathetic. I was amazed they called him on the push off on the 3 at the end that he almost won the game on. Pistons blew the game. They make the free throws, they win easily.

  2. The look of shock when they actually called offensive foul on SGA at end of regulation might be my fav moment of the season; similar to the parade of sad faces at MSG. He looked like an elephant frightened to see a mouse.

  3. Why didn't you like the call where he opens his arm at full length and pushes Green on the shoulder? Shouldn't they be calling the fouls. There should also be a technical in that last act of SGA. If it was FIBA he would get tech for sure. He throws himself on the floor every single time after shooting and gets a whistle on nearly half of them

  4. Even down 4 starters Ausar is 6th or 7th in the pecking order in terms of mins. The team will struggle to win a series if he's playing 28-30 mins in the playoffs

  5. Ku is going way too soft on this squad. My alarm bells are RINGING. To me, this is the Pistons playing like frontrunners, like they're a fugazhi contender, like they’re in it for participation trophies, not real hardware.

Since when did not maintaining the #1 seed and having homecourt throughout the playoffs not become important in the East??!?! It wasn’t that long ago the Pistons nearly caught OKC for best overall record in the league! Cade goes down for this stretch run and they decide to take their foot off the pedal, play loose. Check it: All the other MVP contenders (Wemby, Shai, Jokic) missed games and their teams didn’t waive the white flag on their record. The Spurs and Thunder kept winning and this doesn't even take into account what Jaylen Brown is doing with Boston.

And here the Pistons get OKC on a back-to-back, a very winnable game and what does Bickerstaff and this chicken sh*t coaching staff do? Duck the smoke by sitting all these guys — Duren, Robinson, Harris — so maybe they can, I don't know, maintain a little bit of dignity about their February win — even though Shai didn't play.

Even if the Pistons were to miraculously make it to the Finals, they won't have homecourt and really have shown nothing lately, outside of barely beating a flawed Lakers team, that convinces me they won't get smoked like pulled pork by the West's top tier and this no-show job is just the latest example of that.

  6. Very gutsy performance!!! Just lock up #1 seed and REST players….We have no chance unless we're healthy! JB knows that! It is very hard to repeat in the NBA….OKC is NOT going to repeat! This is the year of the SPURS!!!!!!!!!

  7. The effort was incredible. Don’t wanna pin it on the refs but they were absolutely dog 💩 as always. Really says something bringing it down to the wire while missing multiple key players.

  8. Detroit proved to everyone they're more than Cade. All you hear all year long is that they lack talent and they lack shooting compared to some of the other contenders. Tonight they battled against a reigning MVP and were an inch away on a Jenkins shot from winning that game without 4 of their starters. Announcers were acting like they couldn't believe it.

  9. If you noticed, bickerstaff was right next to the referee that blew the whistle. Could it have been influenced by JB yelling “watch him push off”

  10. Huerter's pocket passes are really impressive. He's very good running the pick and roll. He's a really good fit for the Pistons in retrospect.

Also games like this should have the national media re-iterating that JB is the coach of the year.

  11. I love Duncan Robinson but I've seen enough games with Duncan Robinson and a small sample of Huerter…. Huerter should take Robinson's starting position…ASAP

  12. Langdon makes these small sneaky moves that end up being huge once you look at the big picture!! Huerter was a good pick up but more importantly……letting Ivey go may have been the biggest win. I hope the kid is ok, and want him to have a long and successful career….but its clear something is going on with him. And to get a good player in return………..good job Langdon!!

  13. Detroit teams, no matter the sport will never get their proper respect from the national media. I don't focus on what they think and just enjoy my teams.
