I hope not, if he’s still cooked this year then we need to cut him loose and Bowles. We need to not resign him until after next year, let him pretend he’s running into free agency – he isn’t.
I hope so
You need a QB to win in this league and we are not going to be in the position to draft one for a while most likely. This team has a roster to compete so the reality is Baker has to be kept and he knows that from a negotiation perspective. He wants to be here, the Bucs want him to be here, it’s up to him how much he takes and what he wants to leave the team to spend to build around him.
IMO let him play for the extension. He plays better under those kinds of circumstances anyway.
Ultimately I have enough faith in Baker that I’d rather us attempt to get something done this off season, we have the leverage of him coming off a rough season and the fact there hasn’t been a crazy QB contract this off season so far. Also the chances we get someone better or as good as Baker is slim to nothing, I mean just look at the division one of the biggest reasons we’ve managed to hold it down these last few years despite the state of the defense and our HC is because we’ve had a real QB while everyone else has been bumbling around trying to find their next QB. Do people really want to be trotting out the next Desmond Ridder?
The real question is does Baker want to stay?
He shouldn’t get an extension until we see his play this year tbh.
This is a disaster waiting to happen haha extending mayfield into his 30s. We all know Baker has a low ceiling see 7 out of his 8 seasons.
I love Baker. He’s one of my favorite Bucs to watch ever. He’s just a fun guy to cheer for. That said, I don’t see why they would be in a hurry to extend him when next year supposedly has 8 first round QBs in it. Let him play out the contract and if he ends up costing more because he crushes it, great. In the worst case scenario where he isn’t good, leave yourself the possibility of drafting a replacement without having big cap hit to move on.
I like Baker but I feel like some people think of him as a no brainer top money quarterback. I think we see how the season ends and in Bowles leads us to a top 10 pick we should at least consider the draft for a replacement.
